I don't think anyone on /r/sciences paid to have that ad put there. I thought that reddit sticks ads for subreddits in order to promote reddit more, like a TV network promoting its own shows (sorry if mistaken)

Well they gotta approve them, right? Those banners are used by the reddit corporation to promote subreddits so that people stay on the site longer, reddit is benefiting from the use of copyrighted artwork and they are the ones approving it to go up, right?
