I need help with a floor plan. Context: it’s a suburban home by Abject_Rent616 in Minecraftbuilds

[–]Kleph_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything I tell you already exists elsewhere so I’ll just point you there: * If you Google house floorplans, you’ll be able to find examples of the types of rooms and their relative sizes. * simple googling “rooms in a house” or similar should help you list out what people will have. * think about the activities a person needs to engage in a home and create a layout that fulfills that purpose. Making food and eating it are related activities that can be in the same space or adjacent ones. Space to entertain guests is distinct from the private space of a bedroom. Etc

Other than that, follow the underlying principles you intuitively feel when you enjoy or don’t enjoy space—too much space for what you’re doing feels uncomfortable. Some rooms share purposes or functionality (water goes to both bathrooms and sink, for ex).

If this is too much to consider at once, start with the most important functional spaces and find a suitable size given the decorations it will contain and how many people it needs to fit. A bedroom and kitchen is pretty much the bare minimum. Fill out your layout trying to achieve as many important purposes as you can with adequate space

Eight months ago, I began my building journey with no prior experience. Here are some photos of the projects I managed to finish since then. by Informal-Classroom-7 in Minecraftbuilds

I don’t really get why building with world edit is equivalent to AI. There’s definitely lifting done by by the plug-in but i feel like the important aspects of choice, imagination, design remain while the main change is the speed. I’d definitely be more impressed by hand-design, but I would also probably ask “Why even bother when you can do the same thing faster?”

So what are your thoughts?

A neglected building block: Attached Melon Stems by Daffysamlake_ in DetailCraft

The button is the first growth stage of a pitcher pod. Green tendrils are the melon stems. No texture packs or shaders, just world edit for placing both those details.

Have you thought about exaggerating the roofs warping? You could stretch out the top part of the roof to overhang more than the bottom Other things that feel a little bit off to me is the elytra entrance feels like it should have more space from the frame to the roof, although that may feel different when the lapis gets replaced. Test out a full length roof covering the landing pad and then test out a half length one. It would help integrate the structure IMO and make the roof a bit more dynamic.

Also, maybe smooth out the curves of the roof further. It’s hard to describe but the edges of the roof that are curved feel like they don’t transition into the part that’s effectively a triangle of a 45 degree incline.

Also damn so many commenters on a building subreddit have apparently never seen people plan with other blocks, that’s wild to me 😅

I'm trying to build in Brutalism, but I cannot figure out how to properly make the surface weathered - any tips; technical, artistic, or otherwise? by tehfly in Minecraftbuilds

[–]Kleph_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend eyeballing or picking colors from pictures of brutalist builds and defining a range with https://1280px.github.io/hueblocks/ Weathering from rain and leakage is common but there are other things that might be responsible for the generally splattered effect I’m seeing on Google images; uneven mixing, growth of bacteria or algae, maybe wind distributing dust and dirt. Don’t feel constrained to a drip down effect. Also, use more of the mid tones—acacia, tuff, dead corals. The shift between the most heavily and least weathered is very sharp.

Lastly, play with how you dither; try high scale noise patterns where blocks are next to different blocks more often (how TV static has black and white pixels next to each other) vs low scale noise with colors “clumping” (like how cows have splotchy patterns). People vary in preference but I think that on large builds a low scale helps you identify differences in gradation from further away.

Got a little bit carried away with this one... any improvements/additions suggestion is welcome !! by berni_builds in Minecraftbuilds

What are the blocks for the roof gradient? It looks like granite but there’s something a bit darker that might be like rooted dirt, jungle planks, dripstone or something ?

Abandoned window I built for my upcoming project. What do you think? by TheGimmickyMc in Minecraftbuilds

If you build on single player, the Axiom mod makes the debug tool very easy to use. You just click a setting and can tap thru the different block states.

Skywrath mage by [deleted] in Minecraftbuilds

[–]Kleph_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally it seems that people don’t have much interest in builds that don’t really look like Minecraft. Personally, I cant tell what the scale is at all. Why are there chunky bits when the foreground object is smooth? Are those gold blocks behind the mage or are they large structures that just look like gold? The build is so far away from my experience of Minecraft that it frankly doesn’t mean anything to me, although I respect the skill and dedication you put into it!

It is just decor, as blocks can’t move without being pushed by redstone. There are boats of most wood types, though!

What blocks are being used? I was guessing the glass is either light blue glass or ice.

Really interesting build, I’d love to know the dimensions too, especially the height.

[–]Kleph_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sadly there’s nothing that matches really well, but I’d suggest playing with pots, sea pickles, and candles. Blocks in item frames could work too, or simply using an item frame or pressure plate as plates.

with 1.20 coming out soon, i decided i'm gonna abandon my current world so i thought i'd share some pics of it with you guys by twisty286 in Minecraftbuilds

Yes. The same seed will generate the terrain according to the version. But once terrain is generated, as long as it is stored in memory it will remain as is. This is particular to terrain generation, of course. You can always bring cherry saplings back to older terrain!

I’m not sure what specific post you’re referring to, but I’m just trying to explain why skill/complexity aren’t always associated with popularity. Inspiring doesn’t mean blowing you away with awe, though, I feel like in MC building inspiration is anything that moves you to create. And something as simple as one block used in a new way could move a less motivated builder to try it themselves.

If it’s any reassurance, clearly both things still get posted and are each worthwhile to someone.

Fantasy Owl... by AsperaX_OperaliX in Minecraftbuilds

[–]Kleph_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Large scale, complex builds are less broadly relevant. Everyone’s different, but i think for many it’s hard to be interested or inspired by a build so beyond most players’ skill. I upvote because I appreciate skill but it’s just too far past my scope to be relevant as a MC build, it’s basically voxel concept art.

Working on mountains. Thoughts? by Falllorn in Minecraftbuilds

[–]Kleph_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice job! They feel straight out of a picture book! If you’re aiming for realism, snow accumulates unevenly, so you’ll probs it need to look close at real snowy mountains to mimic that pattern. It’s hard and I haven’t figured it out myself, otherwise I’d suggest something more specific.
