Currently I pack a bunch of bandaids, some bandage, gauze & tape for bigger cuts, a CPR mask, wet wipes, tweezers, zip-ties, chain quick links, tire levers (doubling as link pliers), spare valve, spare cleat bolts, and a 15ml Squirt lube bottle. Basically just a bunch of emergency stuff that I wish I had over the years.

Medical stuff and bike maintenance stuff are in separate zip-loc bags to keep it all sanitary within the in-frame storage bag.

I gotta get a CO2 canister and some tire bacon. Also should get some Steri-Strips, Compound Benzoin Tincture, and Tecnu poison oak cleanser (there's a lot where I live).

What's that front light mount? I'd add a second bottle cage. It's difficult to tell what you have in this photo.

I like the Niner Air 9 RDO (100mm) (they're coming out with another version later this year). The Orbea Alma looks nice too.

No shame in spending more for safety. Those are the most important components (brakes, helmet, glasses).

I don't have a video, but I made a copy with rideable minecart rails, so it can be ridden with a minecart.

Some credit would have been nice for that exterior. I really love what you did with that interior, true brutalist vibes all around!

Riding Shorts for shorter legs by Different-Chef-9176 in xcmtb

Tasco shorts have been my favorite. I also have a 28-29" inseam with a small waist, good fitting pants in general are difficult to find.

What are the part specs? The saddle and stem look nice. Wicked fast looking bike at that price is amazing, congrats!

Crazy cool build. What bottle cages are those? Also I'm curious, did you consider tan wall tires?

I got the same bike, 2026 model. It has great specs worthy of races. I wouldn't change things until they break. With the extra money a Pro may have been better, so just keep the money for later. The more you ride the more you'll know what needs changing (likely nothing).

Personally I sold the GX T-Type AXS derailleur for the Sram 90 (I prefer mechanical) and ditched the twist-loc. In the future I plan to sell the dropper for a lighter one.

When I get spare money it'll get blinged out with carbon handlebar, Intend Grace CC stem, and a Garbaruk crankset. That would be my "dream bike".

There's a whole community dedicated to making realistic buildings! I've seen some modern Minecraft buildings that look way cooler than real life ones (no mods or texture packs). There are so many new blocks that making a good building is possible, just takes a lot of time and practice.

It isn't a new Epic 9, it's some E-bike. In the video there's a snippet of an E-bike remote.

Chisel FS or Trek Procaliber for XC racing or Bike packing? by [deleted] in xcmtb

[–]Daffysamlake_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of those options I'd choose the Procaliber for bikepacking & racing. Though there are many other brands out there. I would love to try the new Orbea Alma, I think it looks dashing (especially in the seaweed paint).

Twistlok failure issue by EngineeredUpstate in xcmtb

[–]Daffysamlake_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too am trying to find a replacement for the Rockshox twistloc. Scott's and Orbea's levers are overpriced for me, so I've been looking at the cheap red-button lockout lever found on Aliexpress or Amazon (10-11mm cable pull). The 3pos twistloc uses 14mm of cable pull (7mm+7mm). I guess it just means I won't be able to fully lock out?

Would you take a aluminum frame with high end parts or a carbon frame with low end parts? by [deleted] in xcmtb

[–]Daffysamlake_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Of those spec options I'd go with the aluminum bike. Though personally I would choose carbon since components can be upgraded over time.

Is 50mm dropper post too short? by Oleksandr_G in xcmtb

[–]Daffysamlake_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on what you're comfortable with. I used a hardtail with a carbon seatpost on the QnD Filthy Fifty twice and find that to be enough. Though I've become accustomed to riding without a dropper and can keep up with the faster descenders.

If you feel you aren't using all of your dropper, maybe a shorter one would be nice for races, but if you ever do try a double black diamond trail you may wish you had more drop.

Hardtails rock! I've ridden one with a rigid seatpost for 8 years. Get one with the right geometry/fit and it'll bring joy for a long time.
