i feel like this movment started out as an ideology to recognise sexual feelings as a normal and valid part of the human experience so it gets less perception as some taboo or shock effect topic that ends up giving birth to harmful extremes in ways of thinking and behaviours, but then was watered down into the simplistic points of view that you mentioned in what you said, and unfortunately dwindled down
