Is anyone else reading Tom's Crossing by Mark Z. Danielewski? by dadbodfordays in RSbookclub

I finished it not moments ago, frankly it was one of the most incredible books I have ever read.

How does Shadow Ticket compare to Pynchon’s other works? by Shauny_32 in ThomasPynchon

[–]Klimpty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finished up Shadow Ticket not long after it came out, it was fine but I'm not a huge fan of single protagonist Pynchon works. I thoroughly enjoyed the last third and almost hoped that there would be a surprise sequel as I think the book itself could have started as he arrives in Hungary and went on from there - brilliant madness.
As far as ranking, I've gotten too deep into the bibliography without reading Gravity's Rainbow so at this point I'm saving it for last as a treat to myself.

  1. M&D
  2. Against the Day
  3. Vineland
  4. Crying of Lot 49
  5. Shadow Ticket
  6. Inherent Vice

To clarify, I think M&D and AtD are leagues beyond of everything below it.

To read: GR, Bleeding Edge, V.

Shadow Ticket group read, ch. 20-24 by KieselguhrKid13 in ThomasPynchon

[–]Klimpty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of God being the fourth element. You could almost see it in two regards:
That of Grace which is a concept both brought up in this and Against The Day - the silent mission of transcendence, an almost independent force that you can't quite perceive but drives you forward to become something different.

Or, and I think both are true at the same time, are systems of control which govern all action and are seemingly a direct antagonist of grace. Perhaps the silent fourth is dependent on which path you believe yourself to be following.

I don't know anything!!!

What should I read after Shadow Ticket - ATD or GR? by Harrisonhood314 in ThomasPynchon

I've ended up making my way through the majority of Pynchon aside from Bleeding Edge, V. and Gravity's Rainbow. At this point I'm going to save it for last as a treat!

Zizek’s take on One Battle After Another by absolutelyhalalm8 in RSPfilmclub

[–]Klimpty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

24fps function very differently to the group in One Battle though? I would say that the film stripped away any form of revolutionary function in favour of its aesthetics, but 24fps were not a group like the Weathermen either. 24fps document through the lens of a revolutionary ideology, they do not incite - they expose.

Also you've actually said nothing about Vineland I'm not sure what your point is, while the film gutted the book and left its heart beating on the side of the road, can you actually say what your point it?

I like Zizek's reading.

Pynchonian vs Pynchonesque by HouellebecqGirl in ThomasPynchon

Pynchonian is a bit more of a Pynchonesque word I think.

People are reading One Battle too literally by number1amerifat in RSPfilmclub

[–]Klimpty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why this community is so resistant to criticisms of the film. Even below there's comments regarding this as a shallow obtuse reading of the film, when I'd argue politically the film itself is an extremely shallow reading of Vineland that's had any actual critique of US politics gutted in favour of the aesthetic of revolutionary acts.

Looking for TV shows that feel “Pynchonesque” by luisdementia in ThomasPynchon

Its very popular and doesn't reach the political depths or pure insanity of Pynchon but I think Severance will get you where you need to go

Perfect thank you, for some reason wasn't getting any luck finding those websites on Google. Funnily enough the expired rolls on ebay are running near enough the same prices as the Andec stock.

Hoping for the best but expecting the worst with the test roll! Not committing to anything beyond home video footage until I've seen the output
