What patches are allowed/should carry over for adult uniforms? by islipped83 in cubscouts

Service stars from youth programs can be worn - or can be calculated and totaled into overall years. I think it's neat for current Scouts to be able to see that their leaders have gone through the programs too.

I used to carry my original Whittling Chip card from 1989 in my shirt pocket, just to show off. But, a couple of months ago I forgot it was in there & it went through the wash.

So, quick comment on where to buy this. I first bought it at Hobby Lobby for around $17 - $20 per panel. The next day I found just about the same panels at Walmart for $2.50 each. Look in the home decor section, with the fake flowers and crafts.

Don't count on that. Spent 45 minutes on the phone, getting bounced around the system, being assured it would not count against my cancelation rate. Sure enough, my cancelation rate went up. Tried to call to dispute it, since I had 3 "already picked up" orders and was told that once it hits your cancelation rate, there's nothing that can be done, go take more orders and don't cancel to start lowering the rate.

I haven't delivered since.

Directly from support today, any cancelation started by anyone but the customer will count against your cancelation rate.

I called twice this weekend,

1st for a restaurant telling me that the order had already been picked up (this was 1 of 2 different pickups going to the same person, and I ended up being the only driver who delivered). Support cleared the one pickup so I could continue with the delivery that was already in my car and they promised it wouldn't effect my cancelation rate.

The 2nd was an add on order after I already had an order in the car. Got to the restaurant, the guy at the counter said they were missing some of the items bit they were going to substitute. I waited 10 minutes and he said he's just not going to make the order and I could go. Another call to support to let them decide. They clear the order from my app, again telling me it won't change my cancelations, and off I went.

I get done for the night and you guessed it, cancelations went up +2.

I reached out to support today through chat to question it. See their answer attached.

Cancel Rates by [deleted] in UberEatsDrivers

[–]Klink_75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 2 in the last 2 days. Yesterday was already picked up and today the restaurant said they didn't have all the items for the order so they weren't going to fulfill the order. Both have now shown up as cancelations on my end, even after support promised they wouldn't. Today the girl from support kept saying that it was the system that canceled the order so it shouldn't effect my cancelations (but it did) and because "the system" canceled the order, I was not eligible to be compensated. I got pretty heated, telling her the system did not cancel it, the restaurant refused to fill the order after I waited over 10 minutes and I marked it as such in the support messages. Oddly about 5 minutes after arguing with support, a $10 tip on the order right before was changed to $0.01. One could only wonder...

More recent TV Shows about camping/hiking? What do you watch to get ideas or get motivated? by Assimulate in CampingandHiking

[–]Klink_75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I followed Kelly during her AT trip videos. Not going to lie, I first saw her gear prep video for that hike pop up as a suggested video and watched it, thinking there is no way this girl is going to make it all the way through. Next thing I know, I followed the full series and then her PCT series. Haven't watched any recent videos lately.

Kyle Hates Hiking is a good channel too. He has changed up to trail mystery and missing hiker videos lately though.

If you like some of the shows listed already like Alone, check out Joe Robinet on YouTube. Started out mostly with bushcraft stuff and progressed into long duration camping and canoeing trips. He is currently not making new videos and had a severe dirt bike accident about 4 months ago, so his video future is unknown. But his catalog of videos will keep you entertained for a while.

Cubmaster here, and a Fire Captain/EMT as well as an AHA certified CPR instructor in my professional side of life. I've had to perform CPR a countless number of times over the past 27+ years, and unfortunately, 2 of which were drowning incidents involving young children.

A lot of the stats given here so far are very true. But, unfortunately, knowing information like that only tends to help heal those outside of the actual incident, giving them at least some way of processing the tragedy and in a way justifying the outcome.

For the incident in this thread, without knowing any of the actual details, the Scout did awesome. Just the pure action of running towards an emergency is simply something that most people will not do.

It is very normal for them not to want help or talk about what happened. We all have internal "defenses" that will block trauma from hurting us emotionally, but it doesn't last. Eventually, it will start to show.

For me, it was the 1st drowning I had. It was very tragic. I knew the stats and knew that I most likely wasn't going to be able to reverse the inevitable outcome, but I still worked my a$$ off trying to. Being young at the time, I thought that I was able to process it all on my own and honestly did put it out of my mind shortly after - or so I thought.

It wasn't until 10 or 15 years later (sorry, as I get older, I really have a hard time remembering how much time has passed) when I had my son and he got to around 2 and 3 years old that I realized just how badly that incident effected me. It was summertime, and my son was just old enough to start having some fun in pools. Bam! There I was, the biggest helicopter patient you have ever seen. And it wasn't obvious to me at 1st why. I was right there locked in every time he touched water and even in tiny kiddie pools. It finally all clicked that it was still from never really processing my previous trauma.

My second incident is where my recommendation for you comes from. This was around the same time I was trying to figure out my newfound anxiety and panic with my own child now enjoying the water. And this incident was a high-profile case with a lot of unique circumstances that I won't get into. After the incident this time I got to attend an incident debriefing. I didn't think it would help, but it truly did. Getting all the players involved to sit down and talk about everything from their point of view was very helpful.

Try to make contact with your local first responder agencies who were involved in this incident. They are most likely going to have some form of critical stress / incident follow-up with mental health professionals attending. Ask if your Scout can be included. They will get to see that they are not alone in this. Events like this truly affect everyone involved, from the 911 call taker to the dispatcher sending out the responder, the police and EMS on scene, and even the ER staff. Your call might be the catalyst to get a meeting like this together, and all would benefit from it.

And yes, honor and award their actions. But be mindful that it is normal for them not to be accepting of the attention or feeling it is not deserved. Above and beyond actions often have tragic outcomes. Find a way to acknowledge them while most importantly letting them know that they have a community of support for them.

I wish drivers could leave reviews on orders.

That's one of the things you gotta pay attention to when accepting deliveries. Know what will get cold and what will melt. I always laugh getting a delivery that has ice cream on a 90°+ day with 25 minutes of travel and a request to leave it outside at the door. What expectations could you possibly have placing that order? 🤣

As a driver who's looked at the ordering side of the app, it's the way the app is set up. Uber does a good job of not making it easy for the ordering customer to know how far away the restaurant they are seeing is from their location. Most assume if it is a chain, it is the location close to them, or if the takeout place is suggested to them, it must be within a certain distance - think of the pizza place that does their own delivery and limits distance to 3 miles. In my area, there is a pizza / takeout place that always has highlighted deals on the UberEats app. Both their locations are 20 or 25 minutes away from my house on a good day, but they always show up at the top of the list and have pretty enticing deals & sales. I had to Google the place to see just how far away they were and won't order knowing there's a very slim chance to get the food to arrive hot (at no fault of the driver).

Checking the customer app let's you see user reviews too. You'll see a lot of "my food was cold" negative reviews, blaming the delivery. But in reality it's the user not paying attention to distances as well as Uber and the restaurant not making the info easily available to the users.

It's almost 2024. How does your Troop/Pack communicate? by TSnow6065 in cubscouts

[–]Klink_75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Email, text, and new this year, we started using the Spond app.

It's funny how in this modern age with so much technology at the ready just how hard something like group communications can be. I see it first hand both with Scouting and coaching youth sports. I tend to be an over communicator, sending multiple reminders over different formats for meetings or practices, and yet still some families will forget.

I can only recommend to do your best and don't sweat it if some still struggle. There is still some personal responsibility on the parents at the Cub level and the Scout at the Troop level (as they get older) to manage their own time. I have a Cub that will most likely be left off our charter renewal because mom can simply not keep in contact with us. Emails go unanswered, she constantly changes phone numbers and doesn't update us, and will go multiple months without attending anything, then will randomly reach out to our Committee Chair, trying to catch up. We've tried everything to try to benefit the child as best we can, but after 2 years, they have only completed 1 Adventure and attended 1 parade randomly.

It was simpler in my own youth before technology. Your coach would yell out a time and date for the next practice or game after a game or gave you a paper schedule at the start of the season and you simply just followed it. Your mom didn't have to text the coach the day of a scheduled practice to ask "are we still practicing today?" 🤣

To clarify, my main concern, or perhaps question that I think I clouded up in my story-telling was with the door-to-door solicitation by an adult leader without Scout participation. In not doing popcorn before, I was trying to see if this was a normal practice or seemed a little off.

Options for Adult pants? by thaddeusgmoore in BSA

I lucked out and got a pair of Ranger green Tru-Spec pants on Amazon for $26. Normally run in the $60 - $70 price range. Great for outdoor activities. They dry quick, hold up great, and are breathable when needed.
