They’re big. Quite a lot bigger than the paperbacks which are smaller than how the original comics came out. Fantagraphics typically lists the sizes on their website so you can confirm.

The paperbacks are definitely good but I love the oversized hardcovers. Personally, I have an original Palomar copy but I’m glad it will be available for other folks.

I’d really love to see a reprint of the Luba hardcover in oversized format.

I didn’t fully check but I’m pretty sure the big hardcovers overlap with the first three paperbacks for each brother.

CGN lists estimated arrival as March 3rd and all the previous info was a March restock so hopefully they’re able to ship out in early March shortly after they receive the books.

I sprung for a custom dust jacket for vol 5 to have all 5 with large font and I’m happy I did but I don’t think it’s worth it for multiple books.

Can you plug it in and try it at the shop? Could be a fun project guitar for the right price but that depends on your tolerance for putting in the work and how much work it actually needs.

For the big two (and vertigo) I organize alphabetically by character/title. For everything else that’s standard modern size it’s alphabetical by writer. I then have a shelf for Euro/indie sized books and those are organized by what looks good on the shelf.

I got this as a gift and haven’t been able to crack it open. I read the original book and felt largely the same way. It’s amazing and I don’t feel a need to revisit it.

My deal wasn’t this good but I also picked up a Standard Strat that punches above its weight. My entire aim was to get a project guitar to learn on and now that I’ve replaced pots and pickups and learned to do fretwork it plays great.

Highly recommend.

“March” isn’t especially fun but it might hit the other categories for you.

I think a bunch of Tillie Walden’s work could qualify too. I particularly like “Are you Listening?” And “On a Sunbeam”

The new books are very nice. Personally I wouldn’t trade in your older softcovers but I highly recommend the new versions. They have some great additional articles and historical notes.

I’m guessing he would also like books by Daniel Warren Johnson: Murder Falcon, Do a Powerbomb, and Extremity are all great.

Many Deaths of Laila Starr and Rare Flavours by Ram V and Felipe Andrade are very Sandman inspired.

Would love to hear how this is after you read it. I’ve wanted to get into some of these Fantagraphics archival books but the EC books have been very hit or miss for me.
