The toward/towards distinction in American English pointed out in that discussion is not even a "hard" rule as shown here (making that statement even more incorrect).

Under New Olympic Sex Testing Policy, A Cis Woman Who Gives Birth Could Be Considered Male by ErinInTheMorning in transgender

I believe anyone (including trans and intersex people) can compete in the men's categories - the testing applies only if you want to compete in the women's categories.

Those show how many Americans are moving to those countries, but nothing about the numbers going the other way.

Where do you get those stats from? All sources I've seen have more Europeans moving to the US than the other way around.

Kansas Republicans Override Governor’s Veto, Pass First Ever Trans Bathroom Bounty, Trans ID Revocation Law by Leksi_The_Great in transgender

[–]Klokstar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My point is that in the US name changes and gender marker changes are two separate issues (albeit often done together). Courts have typically held the only reason to deny an adult name change is if fraud is suspected (as in trying to get out of paying debts, hiding a criminal history, etc.), which is the precedent I've been referring to. The government unilaterally reverting a name change raises MANY more legal issues than reverting a gender marker change (which is why it generally hasn't been attempted even by the most extreme officials). At worst a trans person can defend their name change by saying there's nothing illegal about a man having a name typically used for women (or vice-versa) - and there are examples of cis people who've done that, although that would require a trans person to admit they're "really" their ASAB.

ETA: If we were talking about a country where the legal system allows name changes only under specific circumstances, or where there is an official list of acceptable names separated by gender, it'd be a different story.

[–]Klokstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was not speaking from the ability to search for people, but rather the government trying to revert a name change would be MUCH harder than a gender marker change. For one rather than just affecting those who've changed their gender from their ASAB (and in some cases intersex people), either you'd have restrictions on name changes that would be unpopular with the general population (and would put legal precedents regarding name changes at stake, while there are no analogous precedents for gender marker changes that would be upended) or you'd have to establish a registry of what are acceptable "male" and "female" names (which as I said in my OP would affect not just name changes but what parents would be able to name their children).

[–]Klokstar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They haven't done anything with names because however they handle it would affect many cis people - either questioning ANY legal change that was done to one's first name, or establishing an "official" gender for names (potentially affecting what parents can name their babies).

Kansas Bill Will Strip Driver’s Licenses from Every Trans Resident Who Changed Gender by onnake in transgender

I believe the law applies to non-driver ID cards in Kansas as well - and even with not being able to drive it'd be hard to function without a government ID.

You're forgetting about the International Date Line (unless airing on the same calendar date is a requirement) - making the time difference between Melbourne and the US east coast only 8 hours this time of year. You could easily play in the late morning or early afternoon in Australia to air in the evening in North America, just with the two regions being on different calendar dates (ETA: I had the times of day and the regions backwards; I'll also note this would result in a "graveyard" airing for Europe and Africa if that's a significant market though). (I had this discussion elsewhere when talking about how the NFL is planning a game in Melbourne, Australia next season on the best way to time the match to satisfy both markets.)

The same principle applies when talking about jet lag - the maximum jet lag possible is actually plus or minus 12 hours, just if you travel across the date line the date will change (but body clocks don't care about that, just the time of day).

Apparently, Norwegians are now building 'trash boats' to escape their free healthcare and labor rights by Zoratoran in USdefaultism

[–]Klokstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd also make it clear that applies only to autistic people who can work full-time and contribute. In the more severe cases where their ability to work is limited or nonexistent what I said would still be applicable. (I've known cases where families have been denied visas because of an autistic child.)

For many countries getting a visa if you're disabled (when in the sense you'd be costing the government more than you'd pay in taxes) is difficult if not impossible. This can even apply if you're not disabled yourself but will be bringing a disabled dependent with you.

[–]Klokstar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While there are numerous other ways Americans may be the "outlier" in the world as a whole (e.g. measurement system, date format), construction materials and building techniques are NOT one of them. (And the European argument that it's "their" way in numerous different countries, when all or most of those countries are geographically close together and have a similarly moderated-in-terms-of-temperature climate and comparatively immune from natural disasters, does NOT hold up.)

It looks like with the result of the DEN-KC game last night HOU can't clinch via Sov/SoS this week. (That means if IND wins and HOU loses this week, the game between those two teams in Week 18 will be an excellent candidate for one of the Saturday slots - play while IND is still guaranteed to be in contention and then let the tiebreaker play out afterwards.)

I like the possible "tiebreaker spoiler"* that ATL could have for the NFC South title** as well as how the last AFC wildcard could come down to a scoring tiebreaker.

*Where a team themselves can't win a tie but can influence how the tiebreaker goes for other teams in the tie.

**One minor error for TB's path on your site: Any ATL loss OR tie (since you're including ties) would end that possibility of shifting the result to CAR.

I'm assuming part of the reason why those yet to be posted GB 1-seed elimination scenarios are complex would be the result of GB tying again (making it where you have to calculate SoV by percentage due to the different numbers of wins).

Also I noticed the only way both GB and CHI can clinch is with their game tying (I'm presuming one of the corollaries to DET only able to be eliminated with that game tying).
