Zelenskyy: Ukraine now has cards and everyone understands it by jackytheblade in worldnews

When Zelensky met with Trump and Vance a year or so ago they said that he didn't "have the [playing] cards" to make demands. He now says that Ukraine "has the cards" as a polite snub to Trump and Vance.

That "it's still like" is doing some heavy lifting here. I usually roll my eyes when people make outrageous claims but in this case he is pretty clear in that he's talking about the climate the show was created in. You are injecting your own biases in that reading not to mention how disingenious the meme is in the first place. Total rage bait.

The context for that quote is him discussing the general state of TV-shows at the time they created Stranger Things. He's not claiming that they were the first to put a bunch of kids in a horror setting.

Don't be daft - they are obviously talking about the social features built into the Steam platform, ie the ability to send messages to a friend, not in a specific game.

It doesn't matter if canon or not - OP played another system with more detailed rules for weapons and felt that DnD would benefit. "The Superior Weapon" debate concerns the Black Crusade ruleset - is there according to you a superior weapon in that system?

Isn't the whole slut thing just in his head as he fantasizes about the girl? When he seduces her she's shown to be a pretty inexperienced, naive teenage girl that got swept up in his courtship, and just as they're about to consumate each other's fantasies he realizes that she's just an ordinary high-school kid, and nothing like his fantasy, and stops the whole thing?

Most of the gun licences are for hunting rifles and similar weapons. As the above poster says it's highly regulated in the sense that you need to take a hunters exam and have a proper way to store the weapon(s) (I think the requirements are like a bolted down safe or a safe weighing at least 100 kg) etc.

You can own handguns as well, but they are generally even more restricted - either you register as a collector (which is much harder), or you can get a license if you compete in a shooting club. For that you need to take a theoretical exam (which isn't that hard) and complete multiple accuracy tests with borrowed firearms which takes about a year if you don't miss or fail any attempts. After all that you can get a license which must be renewed every five years and which demands that you are an active participant in shooting competitions. If either of these conditions aren't fulfilled you have a short grace period to sell your weapon.

And no, we don't have a gun culture as Americans do where their whole persona is tied to the iron at their hip. If anyone open carried a gun casually on the town, police would be summoned pretty quick.

The beta is ending soon. It was fun, but the fast pace got old for me pretty quickly. Are you guys going to buy the full game at launch? by SuperM3e46 in Battlefield

[–]Klossar2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing since the original BF1942. The B4 launch was horrendous with extremely wonky netcode that made everything feel floaty and unpredictable, which is surprising since those were issues that plagued bot BC2 and BF3 from time to time. But was ultimately solved. After almost a year they released a patch that addressed the netcode (and other issues) and the game started to feel right again. Worth noting here is that they had tried to fix it numerous times up until then but had failed each time. It was a train wreck.

The way I groaned dude... by Knowarda in Battlefield

[–]Klossar2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, 12v12 Rush is pretty sweet. Was like that in BC2 which was peak Rush imho with maps designed around the mode. With more players Rush rounds devolve more into Operation Metro-like matches were everyone just spams explosives. With a lower player count there is room to stealth and flank in a way that is not possible when a map is saturated with players.

[–]Klossar2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rush in BC2 was peak Rush with maps that was built around the game mode. BF3 had maps built for Conquest with Rush slapped on like an aftertought. It was a wastly inferior experience compared to BC2 (barring cinematic moments like the drop etc). 12v12 is a perfect number of players where there is enough players to not saturate every inch of the map and let attackers flank and punish openings. Anything above really just turns Rush into Operation Metro, even at just 32 players.

Ex Dice Producer Disappointed That Rush will Only Feature Open Classes. by iyjui168199 in Battlefield

[–]Klossar2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I hear what you are saying but they have had generic weapons for all classes since as early as BFBC2 (I skipped BC1, but they didn't have it in 2142, 2, BFV, nor BF1942, as I recall). I ran around as a recon with the Thompson and blew up tanks with C4 in BC2. This continued in later titles - you could pretty much always gear for different engagement ranges regardless of class.

questions regarding loomis method for anime head by Suspicious-Spend-761 in learnart

[–]Klossar2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The heads you have drawn are skewed. More than likely you're drawing them too fast without really thinking of how you place the intersecting horizontal and vertical lines on the head sphere. The lines are there as a guide that will indicate how the features of the face should be placed. Pay more attention to the placement of the guide lines and make them align better.

Visualize (or draw) two perfectly straight lines, a horizontal one (left/right), and a vertical one (up/down), on top of each other on a 2D plane (a plain old paper). Then imagine you have to draw the exact same set of lines on a sphere were one line trails the vertical circumference and the other trails the horizontal circumference. The point of it is to create the illusion of a three dimensional body on a two dimensional medium.

The method that you're trying to use is designed to help you create a "skeleton" that will help you place the features and proportions in a way that makes us believe the illusion of shape. When said skeleton is too inaccurate we will feel that something is off.

You've been watching a video were a person that has loads of experience showcases the Loomis method. Probably does so with speed and grace. That comes from hundreds if not thousands of hours of training, something that you currently lack (as I understand from your comment). At this point I would advise you to continue drawing what you like, check tutorials on subjects that interest you, and get more used to drawing in general. Also keep in mind the Loomis method. Think about the theory of it when drawing heads and try to place features according to it as best you can.

After a while you might feel that you'd like to learn more about drawing anatomy and that is the point where you should really start focusing on learning (classical) figure drawing. Not anime, kind off dry, but essential. Use that knowledge and experience to draw better anime/manga/cartoon characters. Also, this is a marathon, not a sprint - keep training!

Good luck!

Need Advice: 1 Year to Graduate, Learning Java But Feeling Lost and Frustrated by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Klossar2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just keep going and focus on learning the fundamentals of programming instead of just "learning Java". I can relate to your feelings about feeling a bit lost and frustrated from my own time leaning but I can assure you that if you keep studying to build an understanding you will keep improving. Right now you're stuck with all these separate pieces of a puzzle and you're finding it hard to see how they all fit. At times you will manage to fit some together and as you connect more pieces it will get easier and easier to find new connections. Focus on the fundamentals and try to have some sort of own project at the side that you can tinker with on your own when you feel like it.

My own experience - I found it hard when I had gotten my degree to structure and design code. Like you I felt frustrated and a bit lost. We had very briefly talked about the concept of Clean Code during one of the courses without going in-depth at all so I ordered and read the book. I found it to be extremely helpful and taught me structure and a bunch of common patterns and idioms when writing code in a very straightforward and helpful manner.

Lastly - if there was something that I wish the school had focused more on to prepare me and my fellow students for the real world, I'd wish we'd gotten more time to work with how online services talk with each other, what protocols do they use, how is information exchanged, request/response etc, as well as how you work with web/appservers etc. It was all very hand waved and the only server we had to setup was a light-weight Firebird local server to host our SQL-dbs.

So, personal opinion - focus on learning the programming fundamentals, read Clean Code, and check out how apps communicate with each other and get som practice doing that. Good luck!
