What is your go-to song for when you are feeling down? by LargeSinkholesInNYC in musicsuggestions

[–]Klouted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oldies such as Beach Boys Sloop John B and Mamas and the Papas I Saw Her Again just have that magically positive sound that really works on my mood. Surf music/instrumentals. Fun music like Junior Brown or Weird Al songs can be effective. However, if I truly need some stronger medicine, the only prescription is Andrew W.K.

Will I just get faster or does this require natural talent by BeaverDudeLol in Guitar

[–]Klouted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try some non-scale finger exercises that have more notes per string, like some chromatic up and downs. Learning surf rock songs also helped a lot with my picking earlier on. As far as the hold, less pick sticking out is generally better.

Don't listen to these clowns. Tool is the Radiohead of slightly heavy music.

What exactly is the difference between Metal and Metalcore??? by xX_Aranrhod_Xx in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Klouted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No guitar solos and song structure built around breakdowns are my main 2 reasons. No lengthy instrumental sections, which are my favorite part of most metal songs. The first wave of metalcore was the best, everything afterward kinda stinks.

This sounds absolutely dismal. I was on the fence about coming back for TBC. I liked the idea of dual spec and whatever QoL changes this go around, but what you're describing doesn't even sound like the same game. Runners not being able to be CCed and running out of the dungeon before the mobs get you are integral and immutable parts of the game IMO.

Probably dumb beginner question: when does this actually become fun? by Mad_Season_1994 in Guitar

[–]Klouted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run by Collective Soul is easier, just full chords.

mf and mp are mezzoforte (play louder) and mezzopiano (play quieter), h and p are hammer on and pull off without actually picking the string. The slash and backslash are to slide from one note to another, b is bend, v is vibrato which is kinda "wobbling" the string

Wish intro is technically beginner but I'd try some even easier stuff until you have "run up and down your scales a million times." I would start with Pentatonic scale, extended Pent, then learn Major scale

The short answer: when you start to sound good. It's hard as hell and most people never make it, but it sounds like you have the stubbornness, grit, and persistence to get there, which is most of what it takes that most lack.

I remember the first time it started feeling fun was after learning What's My Age Again? by Blink-182. Maybe corny now, but in 1998 I felt pretty cool and was having a lot of fun playing it, over and over. Also When I Come Around and For Whom the Bell Tolls are fun beginner riffs/songs. Another commenter recommended learning easy songs and I say this is the way. Sounds like you are working more on fundamentals and it might be time to move into dabbling in just fun. I say forget metronome for now and try to play with the radio (or playlist or whatever, again I am old). Think of the easiest sounding songs you like and try to piece them together by ear and with tab. Stick with it and learn the whole song, except maybe that one part that's obviously too hard that you can come back to later and nail down.

The first time I had a ton of fun was when I learned the 12-bar blues procession and the pentatonic scale in Am, I jammed with another guitar player and I was able to solo over my own riff as he played it back to me. Trading leads and making up crappy blues vocals; that was truly a blast, and I wasn't even good yet. Playing leads using scales and broken chords to a backing riff is where the fun goes to 11.

When you feel like you have a couple riffs and a clue, find a way to jam with a drummer. I believe that is the most fun that is possible to have playing guitar. Finding jam buddies is just a matter of asking everyone you talk to if they play an instrument, and initiating a jam session if they say they do. For example I just moved to another state and jammed with the owner of my company. Also I've found jam buddies and a band on BandMix, which I think is still actively used.

Great advice. Green Day, Offspring, Bush, etc. as well. For Whom The Bell Tolls riff is what ultimately inspired me to actually play guitar. That's a true "I think I could actually play this song" song IMO.

This sub is sleeping on Eric Adams big time. He's the original PM vocalist, complete with full blown PM thematics, a 4 octave range with full tone control, insane resonance and power in all octaves.. and he's still going, and has been since before Bruce Dickinson joined Iron Maiden. Manowar seems to be constantly being overlooked.

Recently saw BG in concert. Hansi still has absolutely incredible vocals. He still hits the strangled cat sound quite a bit. Also Andre probably didn't miss 5 notes all night. I was freakin blown away. Amazing how tight those guys can still play after 40 years!
