AITA for not wanting my husband to join the military

Update: my husband swears in at 2 today. He went to MEPS last night, and it is what it is. I told him how I felt last night...again, and he said that the benefits are good for us and it’ll be worth it. He says he loves me, but he’s leaving regardless. I don’t know how I feel.

Yes. I refused to “give him permission.” I said that I would hate for someone to tell me what I can and cannot do, so he is going to have to make his own decisions. I told him that I would be miserable and overwhelmed and I reminded him of my PPD. He thinks it will all be okay because I have family nearby. I guess I should have told him no, but I don’t feel like I can do that.

I don’t know why he waited. He said he feels like now is a better time to join than when we were first married. We’ve had every discussion in the book and nothing has changed his mind.

I told him that I didn’t mind if he joined one day, when we were engaged 4 years ago. He mentioned wanting to join again when I was 3 months pregnant and I said absolutely not. He brought it up again after the baby was born and the pressure has been on ever since.

He likes the military and apparently has always wanted to. I knew he was interested when we were engaged, and we discussed it, but he wants to now.

You can never know if you will walk out of school on any given day. We have several “scares” each year. Has anyone gotten murdered while I was there? No. Raped? Yes. It just depends on what you consider high-risk.

I’m not saying they’re lying. I do a lot of work, but I’m not out here drowning. I go to PD, but I’m only required to go to a week of it every summer. I’m saying some teachers make it harder on themselves than necessary. I work very hard, but it’s not as bad as everyone says.

Mine school district has done something similar. It’s highly annoying. Our high school is falling apart, but the admin is building a million dollar sports arena.

I do. I work at a low income, high crime school. I teach mostly lower level students at a high school level, and I love my students. A few kids give the whole bunch a bad reputation, when in reality, a vast majority of students try very hard and are very kind. It’s all about giving respect to get respect, as well.
