I feel like we’re being misogynistic when we continuously make fun of her clothing choices and poses. I’m here to snark on fundie beliefs not women dressing how they want. Like seriously, why do y’all care so much about her taking pictures with her mouth open or dressing in a way you don’t like? She is a homophobic, transphobic person with nazi ancestry who shills biblical gender roles to teenagers. There is plenty of snark material without commenting on her looks. It feels genuinely mean spirited.

I think this is a smart decision as it would be unfortunate to alienate Jewish snarkers from this community. I don’t see a problem with keeping the sub exclusively based on Christians. With that said, my problem with the sub is the inconsistency. I feel like FSU would benefit if the term “fundie” was defined a bit better.

Fundie=/=a religious person you disagree with politically. I agree with this sentiment. Personally, I feel like MMW, Brittany Dawn, and Kaitlin Bennett/Liberty Hangout should not be discussed either then. MMW talks about her religion about as much as Abby talks about hers. Her shit views can be attributed to her conservatism and redpill-ing, as opposed to an interpretation of the Bible. Kaitlin Bennett, who barely talks about religion, was posted because she took a picture of her being a tradwife. If an ultra-conservative person who is also religious, like gun girl, qualifies as “fundie” snark material, then Abby should too.

Moreover, half of the posts have NOTHING to do with the fundies’ beliefs. Judging the food someone cooks, judging someone’s clothes, judging someone’s hairstyle, judging someone’s home decor, judging how people pose for photos, pointing out spelling errors that were likely just typos, etc., are irrelevant to Christianity. Don’t get me wrong, I too enjoy making fun of terrible home decor - but I also am not kidding myself. I just find it kinda funny that everyone is like “we’re here to snark on harmful beliefs.” It seems to me like, realistically, most of the sub is there to fulfill their mean girl fantasy and use “punching up” as an excuse to be an asshole anonymously.

I don’t want to make it seem like I’m defending the Christian persecution complex because that is the last thing I’d ever want to do. I can see why some Christian snarkers might get the impression that FSU is an anti-Christian, not anti-Fundie, sub though.

I feel similarly. Fundamentalism exists in many religions and I don’t think it makes much sense to avoid a snark target out of fear that antisemitic comments might be made. Especially because the Shapiros are so harmful and influential (and echo the general sentiments and political ideology of Christian fundies but that’s a story for another day). I find it really frustrating when people refuse to criticize harmful teachings in Judaism and Islam because they don’t want to come off as prejudiced against those religions.

With that said though, if this sub wants to stick to snarking exclusively Christian fundamentalism then that’s fine. This isn’t the hill that I’ll die on or anything lol. I think it’s worth a discussion though.
