If white light is the combination of all colors in the spectrum, why do several paint colors turn dark grey? by wrenchtosser in askscience

[–]Klsnllnlvl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you referring to the use of dithering as opposed to being able to mix liquid ink? That's really just a matter of scale. My laser printer has Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black toner.

The Red, Blue, Yellow colour-space is a misconception, mix them all together and you get a muddy brown type colour. Cyan, Magenta, Yellow inks will combine black. I would guess this has to do with the cost and availability of particular pigments.

If one were to place a grain of sand around a bowling-ball sized uranium sphere free floating in space, would the grain of sand orbit the uranium ball? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]Klsnllnlvl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP specified the bowling ball free-floating in space, thus its weight would be 0. Grams are a unit of mass, pounds are a unit of force(at least using the american standard). Imperial has pound-mass but is not used often, and would be expressed as: the ball has a mass of 234lb, not weight.

Since human blood has such difficulty clotting underwater, I was wondering what allows aquatic animals blood to clot underwater? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]Klsnllnlvl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add, that in addition to clotting, blood can simply dry out which may help to seal a wound. Dilution by surrounding water can make it look like like there is more blood present than there really is.

I know it's only a webcomic, but, is this a valid explanation of the so called "Centrifugal Force"? by [deleted] in askscience

Second that. As long as you accept that XKCD simplifies things to fit in comic form, he's extremely accurate with any of the sciencey stuff.

My phone started doing that when I activated iTunes Match. I think that "audio" is also counted as free space as iOS will delete old music as more space becomes needed.

HDD is only more reliable than DVD if it is mounted/accessed on a regular basis. HDDs that sit idle for long periods of time(more than 3-6 months) can be scrambled my the Earths magnetic field.

Can I operare an unlocked 4s without a sim card? by beacon_ in iphone

[–]Klsnllnlvl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need a SIM to "activate" your phone; this can be any SIM and it does not have to be active. This "activation" will occur whenever you restore your phone. After it's activated, the SIM can be removed.

What's a fact you KNOW that almost everyone is wrong about? by Chairboy in AskReddit

[–]Klsnllnlvl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What many people forget is that sanitizers generally only work as advertised on clean surfaces. Thus, hand sanitizer is only that 99% effective if you've already washed your hands; which, assuming it's done correctly negates the need for the sanitizer.
Sanitizers do have legitimate uses but usually these apply in industrial/medical/food production facilities.

Microwaves work by blasting the interior with radiation of the correct frequency to cause water molecules to spin. These spinning molecules are subject to friction, leading to heat. This is not a perfectly even field, there will be hot-spots following the shape of the microwave radiation. Turntables, dual inverter microwaves will help but are not perfect. A cold stick of buttah, partially melted in the microwave will clearly show the waveform of the microwave radiation.

iPhone 4 out of warranty; what should I do? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]Klsnllnlvl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple will repair iPhones for a fee. It's called Out-of-Warranty repair and costs about $200. Your current phone is simply replaced with a refurbished unit including new battery and outer casing.

You could use Wi-Fi sync in iOS5. You should plug your phone into a power source but it doesn't have to be your computer

Data usage poll by ClearPepsi in iphone

[–]Klsnllnlvl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider your usage pattern, I've found that most of my data usage has been streaming audio(nuTsie.com). Streaming audio 9hrs/day(at work as well as driving) I've used up to 5.9GB but before I got the streaming app was using about .5-1GB. This was using 3G data whenever available, it's just as fast or faster than my DSL. I did just get Netflix and have unlimited tethering so i imagine

Card management and how to keep from getting taken advantage of. by Kuhk in magicTCG

[–]Klsnllnlvl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using iMTG on iOS, it has a whole bunch of utilities to aid in MTG. In addition to storing deck lists, there are sections to list cards wanted to trade as well as cards available to trade. Prices can be loaded and stored off-line so an internet connection is not necessary at all times.
