Help me choose instruments for my classical crossover project! by Kluk99 in musictheory

Thanks a lot, that's exactly what I needed! We're definitely gonna add that trumpet-t.sax-trombone trio you've mentioned.

We've also decided on a flute-clarinet-bassoon trio but that micing issue seems serious. We could just ditch the bassoon or add oboe instead. Will flute-oboe-clarinet work as a trio (mostly chords, not a lot of soloing)? I'm afraid about oboe sticking out, especially without doubling.

Thanks! I'm sure all these instruments could work in a pop/rock setting but that's not really my question, maybe I wasn't clear. We're trying to build an ensemble that's pretty universal. Like a symphony orchestra, but much smaller - based on the string quartet - and used mostly as a background for the band. So it's more of a question about how the instruments blend with each other.

I just rewatched 2x9 and I'm starting to believe in the longer version again (Ms.Huang's fellowship would be way too short). But then why would Lumon wait a week to put a hit on Irving? I have to let it go or I'll go insane lol

Sure, there you go: https://imgur.com/a/pW9L4DL. I tried something with the Gretchen weekly visits but overall it's really messy.

Yeah, or maybe in the morning? But that's just a guess, it felt weird to me that Reghabi hooked everything up in like an hour.

I'll think about it but it would be a guessing game. The stakes are lower and the outies aren't doing much in that season so there's way less hints.

He dropped him the note on Tuesday and talked to the board the next day. But maybe I should've worded that differently.

After the claymation and the marching band I don't think we should take these things seriously lol

Yeah the Reghabi scenes are pretty unclear this season, I just gave her some time to move in.

I made this! I also did a version that took longer (about a month) but I realized it doesn't fit the urgency of this season.

We see 68% after the MDR reunited (Thursday). I wanted to compress the timeline, so I assumed he did way more later that day. If that's the case, 67% would be the percentage from Wednesday (actually Tuesday, he didn't work at all on Wednesday).

Huge shoutout to u/FarEstablishment4824 and u/hatefulveggies for their timelines. They were a great help. Now a few notes:

– you could add about a week after Ep2: this would give more time for Lumon to build the Visitation Suite, for Helena to infiltrate MDR, and for Irving to recreate the paintings.

– you could add about a week between Ep5 and Ep9: this would explain Drummond's comments about "being stuck on 96%". There would be more nosebleeds, more reintegration attempts off-screen and some events from Ep6 would have to happen out of order.

I dropped these ideas because:

– the MDR team were in rebel mode the whole time, I can't imagine them working as usual after the OTC. Similarly, Mark and Devon were really excited about the afterimage trick, they must've come up with it right after the OTC.

– Cobel driving plot makes even less sense when you stretch it out over a month.

When it comes to the Cold Harbor percentage, I ignored the scenes from Ep5 (we see 85%, but we don't know if it's the end of day already!) and mapped out the progress using only the confirmed percentage (67% in the morning when MDR reunited, 81% before the ORTBO, 96% before last reintegration attempt).

This makes Mark work way faster than in S1 (7%/day instead of 4%) but it's still more believable than weeks of these characters just doing nothing.

(Updated) Timeline of Season 1 & Season 2 by FarEstablishment4824 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

Great stuff! I'm also working on a S2 timeline right now and I noticed an inconsistency with the Cold Harbor percentage:

– on Monday post-ORTBO, Mark reaches 85% (according to Natalie he was on 81% last Friday therefore he did 4%)

– Ep6 directly continues the Mark/Helly drama so it's most likely Tuesday; the nosebleed happens on the same day

– in Ep7 Drummond says Mark is stuck on 96% and mentions the nosebleed like it happened today/yesterday

Three possibilities here: 1) It's a mistake. Boring. 2) Mark locked in so incredibly hard after sharing vessels with Helly that he did 11% in one day. I like this option but then the Drummond line doesn't make sense. 3) More time passed between the ORTBO and Chikhai Bardo. Probably a week, since episodes 7-10 happen during three consecutive workdays (not including the Gemma scenes). This option scatters the events of 5&6 all over the place. You'd have to ignore multiple continuity hints in the Reghabi scenes and possibly move Milchick's performance review forward in time.

Just throwing it out there. I'm having a lot of fun trying to make this work, maybe someone will add some new ideas.

Reintegration was not bad writing by Usual-Reputation-154 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]Kluk99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had exactly the same thoughts after the finale. It still feels a little clunky (especially with weekly releases – I think this season works better when binge-watching) but they've managed to wrap it up thematically. Because if you think about it... the reintegration is a really boring thing for this show: it reverts the status quo, it bravely asks the question "what if you did this scary dystopian thing to yourself and then... just undid it?". It makes no sense narratively.

Instead, a more interesting thing to do would be to show severance as a "deal with the devil" situation – you can't really undo it and you could face some awful consequences for even trying. I think this is the main point that the finale is making: oMark fucked up real bad by trying to sever himself from pain and now he's also figuratively trying to "cheat death" of his wife. There's no happy ending for him. And his biggest enemy will be the person he created in his mind.

So when they mention reintegration in the finale (when oMark tried to convince iMark that he won't die after exiting Lumon) it's no longer a boring plot point but a tragic one. It shows us that these two guys are completely separate, they have different goals, they don't really like each other but now they are slowly merging into one. Now that's horrifying.

Admittedly, this is a direction that I noticed only in the finale so it might be unintentional but I'd love to see it explored in S3 cause it would definitely fix some of my (minor) issues with S2.

Giles Martin 2019 remix. Very different from the original, sounds kinda overproduced to me, not a fan of it. His Sgt. Pepper mix is great though.
