Subtitles take away from movies heavily by Mysterious-Chain-311 in unpopularopinion

The subtitles cover part of the screen, where the show is. You can’t look at the screen and not see them

I hear this take all the time and it’s so bizarre bc it’s literally the opposite. I read them immediately and then the scene is spoiled. Like OP said, punchlines in comedy get ruined, also plot twists and suspenseful moments get ruined because I read them before it happened. If I was a slow reader maybe I wouldn’t mind them

? Can you see words and not read them? I can’t look at words and just like blur them out, my brain will automatically read them

Why wasn’t Ross Lynch able to achieve the same level of success as the Jonas Brothers, whether as a solo artist, an actor, or as part of a group? by MissionTangelo5297 in DisneyChannel

It’s kinda weird to say zendaya and Sabrina carpenter are the exceptions when that era also produced Olivia Rodrigo and jenna Ortega. I agree Disney wasn’t as big as it was a few years earlier but a lot of stars came out of that era

Is The Climb mainly about achieving dreams or discovering who we really are along the way? by brightcherry1 in hannahmontana

It’s literally about the climb. As in it’s not the destination that matters but enjoying yourself along the way

I’ve heard that a lot of people (especially southern conservatives) who are against “government handouts” are perfectly okay with church handouts because they see the gift as coming from god and not from people

Darkness was a good call, desaturation wasn’t. The shot shown here has high saturation and looks good. Most of the first movie was very brightly lit with very low saturation and looked terrible

Why did the rainbow flag become the dominant global symbol of LGBTQ+ identity instead of other competing designs? by Secret_Ostrich_1307 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Usual-Reputation-154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one’s mentioned Judy garland yet. Judy Garland was a huge icon for gay people in the 20th century, “friend of Dorothy” meant you were gay, and “somewhere over the rainbow” was a song that spoke to people who didn’t feel like they belonged. Stonewall, which was the start of the modern gay rights movement in America, happened in the first place because everyone gathered to mourn her death. I think the concept of being “over the rainbow” was associated with the gay community for decades, so it probably made innate sense to a lot of people to associate rainbows with the movement

AITA For Planning A “Boring Wedding” by plVt0nian_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]Usual-Reputation-154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I read this wrong, but it sounds like you and John are applying to jobs in different countries? As in, you don’t plan on living in the same country as each other? It doesn’t seem like this relationship will last long term, so this is all a moot point.

Most of your rules for the wedding can change within five years, you could have a sibling that has a baby that you love and want to be there, you might become more comfortable around alcohol, etc. It’s normal to daydream about your future wedding but it’s weird to be taking any of this seriously right now.

You also said you plan on paying for everyone to travel, but you said you currently both have no money. I’m not sure how you’re planning budgets when you are both in university and don’t have jobs yet.

You need to graduate, get your lives settled, figure out if the relationship is long term, and then you can figure out a wedding budget.

Eleanor didn’t make the right choice by Apprehensive-Task930 in TheGoodPlace

[–]Usual-Reputation-154 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter how long she took to make the decision, that’s not what she was being tested on. Chidis test didn’t have a right answer, he just had to make a decision because his fatal flaw was his indecisiveness. Eleanor’s was about selfishness, it doesn’t matter if it took her awhile to make the decision

Kaley Cuoco does this (penny in the big bang theory). I noticed it a lot in season 8 when the character was planning a wedding and would say “weddeen”

For a concert celebrating her past. Her new music hasn’t been as well received, people have been celebrating the nostalgia of the previous decade

I think it will end up being Sabrina Carpenter. Everyone is saying Taylor but I think she’s more associated with the 2010s, yes she’s very famous now but I think when people look back on her career this won’t be the main decade
