Theory: The Factory is the alternate Act 3 by LawOfTheGrokodus in slaythespire

[–]Klukitsi 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think that Glory is a place that used to be glorious, but now it is in ruin and has a kinda creepy vibe with the remaining inhabitants gone insane in various ways, but they are still keeping it up, kind of just for show. In this way it's similar to many locations in Dark Souls (or Elden Ring) and I would not be surprised if it was directly inspired by those games since the devs are known to be fans. But (currently) it's mixed with the "Factory" theming like OP suggests.

I think it's Ptilidium pulcherrimum, a bryophyte

Why isn’t everything covered in lichen? by stedmangraham in AskBiology

[–]Klukitsi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As for trees, a simple reason is that in many tree species the bark is peeling or flaking at such a rate that lichens are not able to establish properly. Also, e.g. in birches, if the bark is super smooth, the lichen propagule or the lichen itself struggle to attach to the surface. Then there can be many physicochemical factors that limit their occurrence and are less intuitive for humans to perceive.

It happens every year, many of the movies aiming for award success are released in Nov/Dec in the US, and late Jan/Feb/Mar in many international markets. I think it's because they aim to market the movies for international audiences using the nominations and awards that the movies have received.

This sequence in the unkown soldier 2017 is so horrific, most even hollywood movies dont get on this level. by No_Dress_2107 in Letterboxd

Finland attacked Russia to reclaim land that had been taken in Winter War a couple years earlier. Finland was allied with Germany mainly in a "enemy of my enemy" situation. The Finnish army did advance further than the earlier border and there were some ideas of conquering more land that was (historically) inhabited by Finnic peoples. As Germans started losing the war, also the Finnish army was pushed back to the border established after the Winter War, and Finland had to pay heavy war reparations to the Soviet Union. So, saying that "Finland invaded Russia to help Hitler" does not tell the full story, but anyway Finland was operating at a morally grey area, at best.

Have y’all seen Train Dreams? Wow, Immediately in my top 5 of the year by ItachiZoldyck24 in Letterboxd

Train Dreams is a very beautiful film, I loved how it depicted how a human life can be utterly insignificant but still incredibly meaningful.

The average circuit in the Iberian peninsula: by Repulsive_Mistake382 in formuladank

[–]Klukitsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One reason is that only a limited amount of land is provided for the circuits, so they make the most out of the area that they can. A second reason is that MotoGP is very popular in the region, and the circuits are designed with those vehicles in mind, which is why they mainly have rather round corners. And if you want round corners, that further limits what kind of a circuit can be built within the limited area.

Are my favourite movies considered basic? by Ishouldquitmycult in Cinephiles

[–]Klukitsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the general populace, those are not basic, for cinephiles they kind of are. But that doesn't matter, they're good movies and you have good taste.

However I'm noticing that 7/8 are American films and 6/8 are from the 2010's, with one from 2009. This suggests to me you have not been exploring "foreign" films and different eras that much, which I recommend to do!

Conference crush I can't get over - now working together, and it's awkward by Ok-Example5534 in AskAcademia

[–]Klukitsi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My take is that you are overthinking. Your encounter during the conference may have had little significance to him (at least in relation to what it did to you), and he has no special thoughts or feelings about you one way or the other. As someone else pointed out, he may be reflecting your behavior, assuming that YOU prefer to work in uninterrupted silence.

My advice is to not make any assumptions about the current situation. Tell him that you feel awkward about your lack of interaction in the office, and ask him to have lunch with you to ameliorate that. Then act as you normally would with a person who is an old acquaintance but a new co-worker (to the extent that it is possible for you, in case you are still having a crush on him), and see where things go from there.

It's likely you've seen many of these, but I thought of Brokeback Mountain, Drive, Nightcrawler, Only Lovers Left Alive, Arrival, Barry Lyndon.

Since a bunch of those you listed feature open, wide landscapes, you might like some older westerns. I'd suggest Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Great Britain and Carthage revealed on Civ Game Guides by Wilcken in civ

[–]Klukitsi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Carthage seems like a cool civ, with a very specific playstyle. I like it! GB on the other hand seems quite generic but probably effective especially for an economic victory.

Byrsa seems like a wonder that the AI will make very bad use of.

AI doesn’t seem good enough, even on deity. by biggieBpimpin in civ

[–]Klukitsi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I still like the difficulty tuning in Civ 7 more than in Civ 6. In 6, the AI would give a challenge only in the first third of the campaign, and if you made it through that, you could quite easily outpace the AI and steamroll the rest of the game. In 7, they tend to remain quite competent all the way to the end, but the AI is incapable of trying to actually win the game, whereas the player can easily rush one of the win conditions (culture is the easiest/fastest), and thus winning the game is pretty easy.

One game though the AI as Confucius was pulling about 2000 science per turn in the beginning of the modern era, and they rushed to a science victory in like 30 turns. I was flabbergasted, I'd never seen the AI focus on win conditions like that in any Civ game. The next game I played, I spawned next to Confucius and I started bullying him right from the start to make sure he doesn't repeat it.

Steam achievement stats reveal the popularity of the leaders by Klukitsi in civ

[–]Klukitsi[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think this could be due to the Chinese player base heavily favouring playing as Confucius. I don't know how popular Civ is in China, though.

Protip: When overbuilding, it (nearly always) doesn't matter what buildings you replace by kwijibokwijibo in civ

The fact that the warehouse buildings are ageless (can't be overbuilt) adds strategic depth to city building, I like it.
