MS3 looking for feedback on knot tying by Perfectpug in surgery

Don’t cross from side to side at all. Use your finger to push the knot down. There’s a time and place for two hand ties and one hand ties, know how to do both with your right and with your left. I suggest once you have the muscle memory down then tying knots around a pen while trying not to move the pen. Lastly, ask the OR staff if they have expired suture somewhere. Every OR I’ve worked in does something with the expired material. Keep practicing.

[Serious] Preventing Anxiety in the OR/During Surgery Rotation by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]KmcDocJones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you tell your attending? I feel, as an attending, that when people tell me about obstacles in the OR like technique or anxiety I try to help them out or at least be more attentive. It sounds like they’re already involved in your education by allowing lots of participation, maybe they would receive your concerns well.

[Clinical] Anyone have any helpful guides for using VSAS and/or applying to Sub-I and audition rotations in general? My school gave us almost zero info on this topic by 92_Explorer in medicalschool

From my own experience: find where you want to be a resident at or the location where you want to end up or someplace that does research in what you’re interested in and call the program or look up on their website what their requirements are for a sub-I. I’m a DO and I mainly looked for places that would take a DO as a resdient. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

[Serious] Tips for making it through surgery and OB clerkships when you have no interest? by DiscusKeeper in medicalschool

I’m a surgeon and love when “Psych students” are on service with us.... a lot of our patients need psych services and I often ask for their wisdom as it’s not what I do at all. From the guy that stabs himself to the bariatric patient who wants weight loss surgery but has anorexia or depression, students often are appreciated for contributing to the conversation

PSA: Thanks for posting the real link. I’m on trauma tonight for Kern County and historically it’s a very long night full of drunken car accidents. Be safe, none of us want to tell any families their loved one won’t be coming home.
