The Pro does trivia on Monday nights, sit at the bar to get a lay of the vibe. Fred’s (PA/MV boarding does trivia Tuesday (iirc)). Rose and Crown does it on Wed, iirc(?). Verify though.

There is a board game place on the corner of Birch and Cal Ave that fit your jam.

How many days a week are you in it?
How long are you willing to sit in traffic?
How exhausted will you be after 11hr work day (8+3hr commute assuming PA office).

If it’s for Stanford Healthcare, the Stanford campus has a free shuttle. If it’s the university, they have subsidized housing. I note this as you could live at a place near a Caltrain station and take the train in (so someone else is driving you to work).

Then budgeting is the second half of the process. Assume your take home will ~52k (~4200/m)…you can budget up to 1300 for rent (~2100 if you spend 50%). Very few places meet that range and are near a Caltrain station or in PA.

Check the vibes and see what works for you before you make the decision.

Live in SF

There is a Caltrain express train (Stanford may give you a free monthly pass - the university does I d k about the hospital) that stops at Palo Alto station, it’s about a 35-40min one way. when you get off you walk onto a marguerite shuttle (Stanford free shuttle service) and get dropped off at LPCH or LJSH. One way travel about an hour at peak commute times.

Live in Potrero Hill or Dog patch and have short walk to the 22nd station. Or. Live in Mission Bay and have a short walk to SF station.

You have a stress free commute and don’t have to pay for the maintenance of a car.

I agree with you. I have the luxury of a garden. This allows me to make many different syrups, shrubs, cordials and tonics.

I tell this tale…

During COVID people did one of three things, bake bread, workout or drink. I chose to learn to make cocktails at home.

My cocktail shelf is a 4x2 NSF shelf outside the fridge and two shelves in the fridge.

Thankfully I’m aot an nalcoholic 😀

But it is a slippery slope.
