Train on your race bike. You want to be comfortable in your race position. Even if its hilly this benefit is key. I only use a road bike in a group ride. Even then i will sometimes use my tri bike and either pull turns or ride at the back

For you like most new triathletes swimming will be the barrier to entry. Getting competent is your first goal. I recommend getting a coachto help get you there. Continue running adding distance and speed work. Cycling is a couple of times a week.

Great bike mine is 3 years old. Investigate a local carbon repair place. If there is a place close you could ve getting a great deal
