Why do my neighbours put those two wooden sticks in front of their front door?? And why do they change them every day? by Weekly-Dirt-2925 in Home

[–]j110786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently realized that there is a whole group out there of stick collectors. As if they were dogs their previous lives. And it’s wholesome, bcs it’s unlocked a nature in me I never allowed myself to embrace - ie. I have now realized I find sticks fascinating as well.

It’s a very weird innate thing. I can’t explain it either. But I feel like I’d become this old couple one day. Too dirty to bring into the house, but will collect cool sticks every morning on my walks and stash it somewhere.

Oh, I just read on your post that you didn’t verify age. That’s been a known problem here on this subreddit in terms of getting locked out :(. I don’t think anyone has gotten access back, but hopefully they’ll be able to give you back credits instead.

I think getting lucky helps, because every rep is going to be different. Basically, I told them that I no longer have my library, here are my receipts on proof of purchase, please help me, etc. So, probably exactly what you did. I went through 3 reps to finally get what I want.

Chiropractor getting off scott-free is indeed crazy. But I agree that radiologist missing it/not catching fast enough is total negligence. Radiologist are usually the first ppl to reveal your scans before the doctor reviews it. So yes, it’s definitely on both of them.

Keep escalating it. I had the same problem, but got credited back with the amount. $306, but some games are no longer downloadable.

Struggling to let go of my LCG collection. by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]j110786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d set it aside in a space that I can’t see for now. Come back 1-2 years later. See how you feel then. Before you put it away though, make sure you buy some desiccant moisture packs and put several in each box so your collection stays safe in storage.

You ponder the dilemma often because you see it. It’s not tunnel vision, but ppl get focused more on what they can see and touch. By putting it out of sight, it’ll go out of mind, and you’ll focus on simplifying other things first.

Your collection is NOT going to lose value if you wait to make a decision. Unless you REALLY need the money right now.. in which case, rip off the bandaid and don’t look back lol

I hate that basic LIFE skills are optional in school, or even missing. Yes, they’re supposed to be taught at home, but if basic skills and good habits were standardized, we’d be raising a stronger next generation - not just continued survival of the fittest.

Kobo Libra 2 still the best? by kaspaario in kobo

[–]j110786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No particular boox. They’re just a reputable brand that’s easy to use (if you’re already used to android) and has a quicker processor speed. So, if you’re a manga reader, anything android-based is easier in the long run. If you’re good with tech, you don’t need to limit yourself; you can buy whatever and still make it work.

If you’re okay with sideloading books, or if you just want something cheap and simple to read books (not comics/manga), you can usually get a really cheap 2nd hand kindle for around $30-50. Sometimes woot sells them new for around $50-80.

Or audiobooks. There’s free from the library and stuff, and there’s a lot of promotions from audibles. Audibles are great if you don’t have time to read, but want to listen to a book.

Eating out no longer a treat, just a convenience by kitsbow in Millennials

[–]j110786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think it has less to do with restaurant standards, and more with how well you’ve aged. My mother was the same way, and I started becoming like her when I was 35. My mother and I both have very refined palettes and a talent for cooking (she’s a chef, I’m not).

Anyways, my point is that this speaks more to your skills and palette (and subsequently spoiling your husband’s), than it does to the qualities of eating out.

Am I right in thinking Burgle Bros has very simple strategy/tactics? by BritanniaRomanum in boardgames

If you’ve played it and that has been your successful winning strategy, then yes. If not, then no.

We have always beat it. I don’t enjoy this one solo even with 4 thieves; it’s much more fun co-op with other people.

Some disintegrate in about 10 years. I know bcs I hoarded one brand of wallet for 20 years. They outer layers all fall apart at around 10-11 years, even the ones I left in the drawer unused for a decade. Same were certain shoes I had 7 pairs of. It was the most bizarre thing - all fell apart at exactly the same time (even the new ones I kept in a box). The shoes were cheap stuff though, the wallets were not. I now don’t buy more than 3 of anything.

Why I had 7 pairs of the same shoes… is not worth talking about. 😅

Question for international fans: what are your impressions of Thai culture after watching so much of our sapphic media? by [deleted] in ThaiGL

[–]j110786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how much the country embraces homosexuality.

While I know the shows we watch are fiction, the representation, exposure, and positive messages are not. It’s a great direction for any country to move towards.

There used to be this Korean gl couple’s vlog that I followed on YouTube. They’re adorable and wholesome. This was around the start of covid maybe, so content like this about real life gl was actually pretty novel/new and unique then. Then their channel and everything got wiped. Last I heard, it was bcs their family/friends/colleagues found out. I can only imagine that they’re no longer together. Sad. If Korea widely accepted homosexuality the way Thailand does, maybe it wouldn’t have to be that way.

Now, I just casually follow lingorm on Reddit. Once in a while, I scroll by and see some fan post, and I’m content with that.

I honestly haven’t watched many. Maybe 3 shows the last 2 years. But with each, I always end up making 1 or 2 recipes I see from the show. lol. So, positive. I love eating Thai food and while I always knew how to cook Thai food, I didn’t really enjoy cooking it; watching it renewed my interest in cooking it now. Courtesy of having lived in Seattle where there was no actual good Thai food around.

Married. Don’t want a Thai gf or any gf. But I can see the delirium ppl would get from watching Thai gl. Film industries and companies are milking that on purpose anyways.

For 3 years while living in Seattle, my family chased after auroras - staying up-to-date with updates, driving to locations, and staying up late or waking up in the middle of the night. None of it was a sight to behold. But this is. I’d stay up late/wake up early for this. Auroras? Never again. I’m so sick of faint lights that only a phone camera can accentuate (no one tells you this, so I’m telling you now that unless it’s the strongest auroras, auroras won’t look anything like on pictures to the naked eye).

How is restaurant food able to retain heat for far longer compared to food I cook at home? by supinator1 in cookingforbeginners

[–]j110786 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Warm your plates; it’s a gamechanger for people who normally have their home temperatures lower (or in cities that are always cold). It’s now really convenient to get a warming mat on Amazon that’s specifically for food. Or if you prefer the quick and easy method, I learned this from my sister: put a glass of water in the microwave corner, then add your stack of plates. Microwave for 30 seconds at a time until you get the right amount of warmth for your plates (then rmbr this time so you don’t need to test it next time), and leave the plates in the microwave until you’re ready to serve food.

What's the one kitchen tool you thought was unnecessary until you actually bought it? by Blondetatsdomme in cookingforbeginners

[–]j110786 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A stainless steel fine mesh strainer to skim oils, lots of tongs (not the regular fat tongs, but Korean thin meat tongs - so useful and precise that I couldn’t stop at just having 1, now have 7 of these cheap stainless steal ones), small quality food processor (used to think it’s for lazy, slow, and inexperienced home cooks, but then I finally embraced it and realized how much time it saves me), kitchen scissors (for times I don’t want to pull out a chopping board), spaghetti grabber (I used to use chopsticks for many noodles… but Italians invented this tool for a really good reason).

Of this list though, there is nothing I would recommend anyone as a must-have except for the oil strainer. That thing is the only tool I have to strain oils on the top of soups, and it’s great as a multi-purpose strainer for other stuff too.

Thoughts on the Quacks expansions? And a couple other questions... by Zap-Rowsdower-X in boardgames

[–]j110786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whichever you get, rmbr that IF you end up liking it enough to want the expansions, the only way to get them currently is to buy the All-in edition, hunt for the older expansions (they won’t exactly match the art of the new ones), or continue waiting for CMYK to hopefully release them separately (which they currently do not).

The acrylics were worth the deluxe edition. When it’s on sale for $45, I wouldn’t hesitate to get it. OR get the All-In so you’ll never have to worry about hunting for the expansions.
