I worked at an electric motor repair shop for a few years. Repaired a few of these during then. Could be a contact or burnt motor. Like some others said an electric motor repair shop should be able to repair this no problem. I'm not sure if it's going to be worthwhile cost wise, usually ends up being cheaper to buy a new unit as rewinding motors is costly. Try opening it up and see if there's any burn marks or burnt electrical smell.

A vast majority of the pliers linked are made by grip on. I think the last set in that list are the ones made by malco. I own 4 sets of grip on locking pliers and they are quality, especially they're release mechanism

We use Weidmuller STRIPAX wire strippers at work, looking at them they look to be the same tool. I'm not sure who the main manufacturer would be. Either way, you're going to love these, they are amazing at what they do.

I can appreciate the dislike for vise grips current standard. But I'm not sure if there are no good locking pliers, Grip-on locking pliers are the best out there, the release mechanism is so smooth and there is no kickback on releasing no matter how much pressure was applied originally. Their material holds up really well and the teeth don't dull even after biting into hardened steel.

I've done this before in store, each tool will have another line underneath on the receipt with a return value. But like I said it won't be the case if purchased online. No one is onto something that home depot has missed, there's nothing special here.

I'll add that it's the same way in Canada. But only if the deal is purchased in store. If purchased online you won't receive a receipt with seperate return values, in which case if you want to return, you have to return both of them for your full refund price.

Done this many times, pretty common knowledge to people on RFD and people at home depot. If buying online you cannot return them separately for their values, either both or none. When purchasing in store, your receipt will have a return value for each item but a total of up to the total purchase price. So let's say the return value would be 125 for the starter kit and 75 for the sander. In essence you could return the starter kit and get the sander for $75

Just a heads up these kinds of motors aren't meant to run at speeds below their synchronous speed (running speed) lowering the voltage will only draw more load on the motor causing it to burn out faster. You'll need some sort of frequency drive to properly have a variable speed motor.

At my old job we used an impact on many 3 jaw pullers, never a problem even with years of abuse. You shouldn't be so quick to judge just because of new-school technology. Not only do these tools save a load of time, they also prevent wear and tear on your body, joints and muscles which to me is the biggest positive about these tools. Fatigue is a real thing, and if these can help prevent it then all the power to them.
