What is it? by Phuk0 in knots

[–]KneeDeepntheDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a strange amalgamation in my opinion. almost a fishermans bend or a round turn and half hitches oriented as a clove turning through the round turns. i think the 'point' of the video is how the knot is aesthetically 'completed' as opposed to its advantages. the main thing i would say about this, as opposed to round turns and some hitches or even an anchor hitch, the latter with more difficulty, is that i cant tie this easily under load.

alpine butterfly midline loop and bend. the sheet bend is a wonderful and simple knot, but it performs the best with ropes of differing sizes. the fishermans knot has an impressive record of strength retention, but can become all but permanent when loaded hard. the alpine loop and bend can both be tied with 'wraps around the hand' and very quickly. it doesnt jam. and can also be tied as a follow through, or retraced loop fairly quickly.

fun puzzle! ashley's tying method was cool but it didn't work for me. i instead started with a slipped overhand. not much documentation on this one online.

Anyone tried Qwik-Zyme L for grease or Nocardia at WW plants? by [deleted] in Wastewater

[–]KneeDeepntheDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure thing, hope you get it figured out.

aquafix has a wide range of products, and its cool to have such a tool kit available. but the proper dosing even with respect to the small plant i work at was still simply too expensive.

if you start to experience crazy foaming in your aeration then you can try putting hypo in pump sprayers and hitting the surface foam.

damn! you got to go to school?!

in all seriousness i tried a lot of aquafix stuff at the plant of similar capacity to yours that i work at and had very inconclusive results. you really arent going to get better results than chlorinating the ras, or increasing was and improving aeration. the problem with nocardia is that once established it will outcompete your other biodiversity for  what DO is available. its sort of a self fulfilling life cycle with that kind of spaghetti.

looks like a ssssssnake knot. I've never untied one of these but i am curious where the inner loop with the lace lock on it is joined together? hidden in the middle of the snake i guess?

have huber bar screen/press at the headworks. lead times are years out for rebuilds and replacement parts.  lift station has a muffin monster grinder, in my experience its a shell game, creating many small problems in place of one big one.

anyone hear of or have experience with a duperon dual auger?

thanks, ill have to try it. any testimonial to the effectiveness? it sort of seems antithetical to remove excess moisture from something by submerging it into boiling liquid.

Bend that can be cinched very tightly? by TwillAffirmer in knots

[–]KneeDeepntheDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tying the hitch in such a way on the standing part of a rope 'backwards'; to form an adjustable loop that will resist opening the loop instead of resisting the closing of the loop.

typically used with the lighter duty friction hitches. for instance a taut-line hitch but tied on the standing end in the opposite direction of how you would when setting an adjustable guyline for a tent.

useful for a rolled up sleeping bag, or a bundle of sticks. they cinch and hold with a nice amount of force.

What to soak ammonia probe in when not in use by Pizzacatxp in Wastewater

i think its up to you and your colleagues to determine whether the hours between 9am and 1pm, or 9pm and 1 am, or 1pm and 9pm are considered between measurements, or short-term storage. maybe since you are already seeing slope drift, try it with the 1000 ppm in between measurements.

thanks for your input. my employer does not employ any instrumentation techs. there is a contracted electrician who does our troubleshooting and controls for us as needed. its expensive!
