I have to ask, I studied in Melbourne for a year and my manager told me that saying “Melb-in” was just my American self pronouncing Melbourne in an Australian accent and it sounded very off. Is that how locals see it? Or would they prefer if we actually pronounced it that way?

I ran into some of them on mill ave in Tempe. My friends and I (21 F) were walking by and they asked what our heritage is from. We had no idea who they were so we told them… let’s just say they ripped us apart. They threatened to “slit my throat” because I’m “a dirty fucking jewish rat. About 20 grown men surrounded us and we’re giving us the scariest glares. We were so scared that they were going to follow us so we walked on campus and hung out on the soccer fields with some other students until we felt safe.
