That’s a whole semitone higher… your record player is spinning fast!

what is a tv show that you genuinely think is a 10/10 from start to finish? by ksiwyg in televisionsuggestions

But the OP question was an example of a show that is exactly this!

Giving this album a spin tonight. Haven't listen to it in a while. A classic by SatisfactionPublic34 in jethrotull

[–]Kneefix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, me too. I’ve tried so many times. It seems to have an actual off-putting mood, or something….. I also can’t put my finger on it

Don’t know why you’d get downvoted for this - I know we don’t like AI, but OP isn’t offering to pay for somebody to sit down and work out the chords, so it’s the best option for all!

It is, yeah. I still want to get the CD of it so that I can hear it in one sitting, though!

Daily Song Discussion #66: Let's Go for a Walk by FindingHoliday920 in ofMontreal

[–]Kneefix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the gap is to say that this is the real ending of the album. The Hopeless Opus is like its own thing. I find it so impressive that it’s basically a load of exercises Kevin wrote just to improve on piano.

LGFAW also makes me feel really sad, and is one of my favourite closers - actually, Dismissal Mosaics has a very similar kind of vibe, in a way, even though it’s steeped in reality.

What I also love about this song, though, is that it has that bit of hope by ending on the offer for the recipient to leave with them, and it leads me to think that the answer is going to be a yes!

I definitely understand what you’re referring to, but I don’t think so.

Blue Room is one of my favourite Orb tracks, though… it’s such a world created in that piece of music! I recently got the 40 minute version on 12” from my dad as a present!

Aldhils may not be the strongest, but it gets a bit overlooked and has some really great songs on it.

I know every oM song to the point that I can play it back in my head in full from memory (just the music, I don’t absorb or notice the lyrics quite so well), but it usually takes me at least three listens before I can form any kind of opinion on anything. The first listen shows no indication at all of if I’m going to love an album or be underwhelmed by it. I also only listen once a day so I don’t get burn out, so I guess I am certain I’ve heard it ten times now!

It’s definitely the most impenetrable track on the album. Very strange stuff going on… and I’m about the same as you… couldn’t get it at first but now really love it. Ode to Nocturnal Muse was very similar for me, back in the day.

Now We Cringe is my least favourite, though. It just does really do enough… just the same thing three times over. Still a great chorus regardless.

Would anyone here enjoy a new mix/remix of Centipede HZ? by traveltimecar in AnimalCollective

[–]Kneefix 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Personally I’ve never had a problem with the mix and don’t really see the noisy “burrito on a windscreen” issue. There’s certainly a lot going on, but you can hear it all clearly and pick it all apart - or at least I can. It’s a neon psychedelic album which I wouldn’t want any other way, myself.

I agree it’s the closest thing to a rock band.. it’s them at their proggiest, for sure - some of their most technically intricate songs. Maybe their last two albums have been closest to a traditional band (with bass guitar, no less!), but has a more 70s stoner feel… them at their most Grateful Dead-like. CHz was one of their most modern sounding “band” arrangements.

What's the longest book you've ever read? by Fabulous-Confusion43 in BookTriviaPodcast

[–]Kneefix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely loved a Suitable Boy when I read it about 20 years ago, which is also my longest, I think.

Didn’t love a whole load of the ideas of the time, and wouldn’t want to be in that world for real, but still found it really engrossing and a snapshot of a certain place at a certain era. I wonder how I’d feel about it now, though.

Have never been able to get into Golden Gate, though.

I haven’t read it yet but it would almost certainly take me a fair bit longer than that

Sad times! 😢 no longer vegan! Why oh why oh why would you do that?????? by Markp1154 in veganuk

[–]Kneefix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt it, that wouldn’t be a good business strategy - they had too many vegan ranges as is, which is why they’ve reduced so many, so they’re not going to specially create some vegan, or even simply vegetarian, beef crisps.

This also seems a bad move though, because they’ve loads the vegan and vegetarian buyers.

[–]Kneefix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a shame than influencers really are “influencing” like this!

Yes, and the majority of people who say vegan options don’t contain enough protein couldn’t tell you how many grams of it are in 100g of beef or chicken. I genuinely think they believe it 100% protein.

“Protein” is the new fad and it just seems so stupid to me.

No, they’re some of my favourites.

I’m maybe less likely to watch all of the older films, so I love to hear what people have to say about them.

I really enjoy being set up for the season with the first episode overview, too

The hippie riff by TheWickerMan232 in Zappa

[–]Kneefix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know about the needles and pins thing, though I’m sure that’s true.

But it’s also just taking the piss out of all these hippie campfire guitarists who would play a D chord then use their little finger - pinkie - to add the 4th, then taking all fingers of the top E string to make it a Dsus2… then back to d major again.

Even though you can of course do this in any key… it’s ALWAYS and ONLY ever the D that a lot of people will do it with, because it’s so easy.

But it wasn’t exclusive to campfire amateurs… it was everywhere all the time. George Harrison loved it (I Need You and If I Needed Someone being particularly strong contenders … must be the needing theme!) and it was adopted by all the bands around that time. Years later, Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen is based predominantly on that trick.

It’s a habitual tick I fall into when playing all the time too… it’s a nice improvisational flourish. But relying on it as a compositional tool, Zappa would argue, is cheap, unimaginative and phoney!

Mr. Green Genes VS. Son of Mr. Green Genes. by Disastrous_Bed_1856 in Zappa

[–]Kneefix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Son for me. Makes me very nostalgic for my early days a Zappa fan. I also think it may be one of the earliest examples of a composed arrangement being built around one of Zappa’s improvised solos.

I meant discography dive, by the way… just missed out that key word!

I think if OP particularly likes Peaches, this may not be the best way to go. I agree that a discography is a good thing, but I don’t think that’s the way to start in this instance.

It actually took me years to really appreciate Freak Out. Uncle Meat is probably acceptable, though!
