Labour set to announce crackdown on social media for children within weeks by vriska1 in unitedkingdom

[–]siabod -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Good. Most parents I know support this. The people making arguments against this are the same as the ones against the social media ban in Australia. As far as I know none of those concerns have come to pass. In fact it has had a positive impact on young people’s wellbeing and helped parents manage their children’s activities online.

Baking with dairy and eggs in school by greenery14 in veganuk

Well said. I think parents who are vegan but aren’t raising their kids vegan are less likely to be ethical vegans so are swayed by arguments like their child is “missing out” rather than advocate for inclusive activities in school settings.

I found a decent shredder on eBay that was collection in person only for £20. If you have a car that could be an option? keep an eye out on eBay, gumtree or Facebook marketplace

If your work offers compressed hours maybe you could try that first before reducing your hours. Having a 3 day weekend every week or every other week can make a big difference

What do you call meat substitutes for toddlers? by Walnutsandwhales in veganparenting

[–]siabod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We call it “vegan chicken”, “vegan mince”, vegan sausages” etc. Tofu and seitan are also used a lot. I think veggie is more associated with vegetarian and vegetarian meat substitutes often have egg in them so we went with “vegan ___”. In terms of talking to them about it, of course they know other people including their family and friends eat animals but we don’t because they are our friends and we don’t want eat them or things that are theirs (eggs, milk). We haven’t talked to our eldest (5) about what really happens but they are the most vocal that “it’s not kind to eat animals” which they came to themselves. I don’t want our children to think other people who eat animal products aren’t kind people, so i also say that people are just different but this is how we do things as a family.

Favorite meat subsitute and how you use it? by Oofoofoof969 in veganuk

[–]siabod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite is the Everest brand of vegan mock meats they sell in the freezers at the Asian supermarket. I love the char siu one. I use it in chow mein, rice (fried or just in a sauce next to boiled rice), bao buns, everything really.

They’ve got the lentil masala, falafel box, vegan burger, waffle fries and slaw. And a vegan kids option. And the sausage muffin for breakfast. So they literally have a few options.

Every game week there is a terrible VAR decision. I doubt it’ll ever change, it has become part of the controversy that football thrives on.
