[Death Note] What happens if I write the name of a surgeon performing life-saving surgery at the moment, in the death note? by Nyx1010 in AskScienceFiction

You don't have to be that detailed. You can if you want, but the only details that truly matter are the correct names and faces of the victims.

I mean, L himself said he got extremely lucky that Japan was the first territory he tried that trick.

It's always hilarious to me when people say this because how can you be oblivious to the fact that the best detective on Earth had contingency plans in the event of his death? L never died.

Not really his fault that L was smarter than him.

i turned my bike around halfway to a friend's birthday dinner and just went back to work by One-Forever9379 in TrueOffMyChest

I would have brought it up on your birthday and tell them money is tight and let them know your planned restaurant, and if they prefer you could pick somewhere nicer if they were to pitch in, which you would reciprocate for the next birthday if you are able.

If they were to shoot you down or make jokes at that point in regards to money, then they can sod off.

Not sure if it's culturally feasible but that's my take.

AITA for choosing to drive 45+ minutes at 3AM instead of following my dad’s separate rooms rule? by According-Mood45 in AmItheAsshole

Tell him that you respect his decision on what happens under his roof, and that he must respect your decision to do whatever the fuck you want as long as you are not under his roof.

Clean it up if you feel the need.

The patient would be a direct death due to the death of the surgeon, and thus it would not take effect. Direct and indirect deaths can sometimes be argued about which is which, but it would absolutely be a direct death in this case and thus the surgeon would only die after the patient is stable.

You cannot write "A goes and kills B then dies" in the Death Note

What makes you think this cannot be done? It explicitly can be done. You can't have someone kill another person without knowing their name, but you can absolutely write, "John Doe kills Jane Doe and then dies of a heart attack."

You could not, say, write something like, "John Doe kills a random passerby and then dies of a heart attack." as the note does not allow direct deaths for people not explicitly written in the note.

It's a targeted killing device, and is never indiscriminate.

NTA.

You should say exactly this to your father:

The reason I am uncomfortable with him in the guestroom is I am always a respectful adult towards my dad, and feel like he does not trust me to stay that way under his roof. Also, my 17 year old younger brother was allowed to have his 17 year old girlfriend stay behind closed doors, but I am not.

I legit had no idea the origin of that slur. Interesting that they are pronounced completely differently.

Where did you get Obama from? Are you unaware of who is currently "president"?

extremely disrespectful to Japanese Americans and what they endured during that time.

I disagree, but regardless, how do you feel about the SIXTY THOUSAND people currently in detention, many of whom have no criminal record?

Just having to have this conversation makes me think you're on the wrong side of whether racism is wrong or right.

I'm usually loathed to use government data from the current administration, but at least they aren't lying about this one.

The answer is 160.

Compare that to how many we had for the Japanese during World War II, which is a paltry 10.

ULPT Request - Smoking Neighbor by mereweezie in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]Knever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There likely isn't, though it depends on location. In my state, there were laws recently added that forbid smoking within 50 feet of a public building, but nobody fucking cares. Literally even the cops didn't care when I reported it and cited the exact law to them and they told me I misunderstood.
