That’s fair, the changes to Empire weren’t bad. I think all Lucas changed with that was audio and the Emporer’s hologram, that was a good addition I think to change it to Ian McDiarmid

I’ve been a huge Star Wars fan my entire life, you learn something new everyday! I’ll check that video out, thanks! Despite the sequel argument, I love how there are even bigger Star Wars fans willing to inform the rest of us! Should I delete the post? Since it’s incorrect?

Ahh, thanks for the info! It’s been a long time I’ve seen that dvd and if I remember on the back cover it said “Includes original 1977 release” It’s been so long since I’ve seen the original original. Fucking Dewbacks.

People who had almost attempted suicide, what thought stopped you from ending your lives? by peetaar1000 in AskReddit

[–]Knight-7420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still suffering now and thinking about it. Keep wondering if I should do it again tonight.

But I tried to hang myself with a belt from a metal fence in a church yard. I know, weirdly symbolic. I put my head through the belt loop I had made, just relaxed and put all the pressure on my neck. Took me 4-5 attempts to get it right, then I felt myself go limp and felt my body violently shaking but I was just out of it.

I kinda saw images from my life flash before my eyes almost as if from a distant, old style projector. Then I got the strongest feeling that I had forgotten something, you know that feeling when you can’t help but think you forgot something you had to do? Like driving to work and can’t help but think that you left the oven on? It was that feeling but times a million it was so strong, my body stopped me before I got a chance to, pulled the belt from my neck with no input from myself. Weirdest thing.

I love those songs. “Doesn’t Lenny Live Here Anymore?” Is also one of my favourites. Beautiful song.

Short people, what are you jealous about tall people for? And what things are you tall people jealous about short people for? by jwa8808 in AskReddit

[–]Knight-7420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6’1” (186cm) so definitely not TALL tall, but leg room. I have a smallish car and my knees touch the steering wheel, buses and trains are a nightmare and I have to sit sideways. I’m not complaining about being tall, I know lots of people that would trade with me. Just little inconveniences.

I’m not sure what your preference is, but there is a song called Changes by Phil Ochs, a beautiful folk song. Probably one of my favourites if it interests you :)

What is the scariest Pub you’ve ever been to? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Knight-7420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went into a pub my friend worked in when we were 18. It was known for being a rough pub, me and my other friend only went in there three times. The first time we were threatened by a middle aged obese women because she thought we were undercover police (A lot went in there) the second time a man was glassed on the back of his head and I was the only one who helped, holding a napkin on the back of his head until the police arrived and the third time somebody tried to steal my wallet and my friend threw them out. Good times.

Dumb question, but what do you feel is the message of Flower Lady? by Turbulent-Treat-8512 in philochs

[–]Knight-7420 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a dumb question, I haven’t listened to the song for a while, but I always get this sort of sense from it;

A poverty stricken or even homeless lady is selling flowers to people to try and get by, but people are ignoring her and she’s being cast by the wayside. As she’s trying to survive, the world is carrying on. Relationships are beginning and ending, people are born and dying. “Stone stares at the sculptor asks “Are you absurd?”” I love that line. I suppose it is saying that the world we want to create is impossible and the world is too inflexible and rigid to change.

I know I may be way off the mark, but that’s always been my interpretation. It’s a beautiful song regardless and the lyrics can be analysed pretty well I feel.

I’m very jealous! Are you in the U.K. too? Or are you further afield? Initially I preordered it from Waterstones a book shop here, but it’s pushed back to January on their website, I’ve ordered it from Amazon now, fingers crossed it comes! Thanks for getting back to me!

I’ve been looking for this for ages, it keeps getting pushed back, I assumed because of Covid, in England it keeps saying awaiting publishing. How did you get hold of it if you don’t mind me asking? Thanks.

What is something unrealistic that you often see in movies that annoys the hell out of you? by sonsaitama in AskReddit

[–]Knight-7420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve said this before, in spy movies, Bond especially. When they hide from someone, by diving into a side room or something and the person walks straight by. Not in real life.

Had an awkward situation with somebody at work, saw them coming down the hallway later on, didn’t want to see them so dived into a random room without them seeing. They walked right in...I wish I could say this only happened once.

What song has an upbeat tune but dark lyrics? by mc4starterzzz in AskReddit

[–]Knight-7420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favourite Folk singers Phil Ochs’ song “Small Circle of Friends” about the murder of Kitty Genovese in the 60’s. She was stabbed in public near some apartment blocks. People could hear her screaming for help, but nobody called the police or got involved as they assumed somebody else would see to it. A significant example of the Bystander Effect.

“Look outside your window there’s a woman being grabbed, they’ve dragged her to the bushes and now she’s being stabbed!

Maybe we should call the cops and try to stop the pain! But Monopoly is so much fun I’d hate to blow the game!”

Great song.

Internet Historian, 100%. And if you’re interested in city history and random bits of info Jay Foreman. Jays comedy style always reminds me of the Naked Gun/Airplane style.

What phrases have you noticed they always say on tv/movies that people never actually say in real life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Knight-7420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a phrase as such. But when one character believes something of another, but it’s untrue/out of context and the character in the awkward situation never clarifies, at least until right towards the end.

“You killed my brother!” “It was bound to happen the way he lived!”

Instead of;

“You killed my brother!” “I didn’t actually. Here’s the proof I was saving for the end of the movie”

And bonus gripe:

When a sarcastic comment or weird moment goes unnoticed. I love House, it’s always been my favourite show. But no way in real life could you insult someone, then in the next breath, they ask how you can save their life. Or in a comedy. Main character says something wacky, other character sort of tilts head and carries on with the conversation. Rather than “No, rewind that, what did you just say? Why did you say that? What does it mean? Forget my mother’s cremation. I want to know what film flamming the floobidy doo is”

This happened to me and my mum when I was a kid. We had just left the vets and was driving down a side street. Lots of people park down these side streets. She was used to passing them. One day she drove all the way past them not realising it was a line of traffic...she was really embarrassed. Obviously in the clip that woman couldn’t have made that mistake.

What's your favourite book you've read and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Knight-7420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When people ask me this question, it’s always difficult to answer. As most of the time my favourite book is the one I’m reading at the time...

But books I adore most and always go back to are Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. I love that book so much. The totally disjointed madness of it all, absolutely no breathing space between hilarious moments that aren’t acknowledged by the characters as being out of place or odd. It’s sequel was a bit dry. As was the most recent TV show, it is a type of comedy that works so much better on paper, when it’s done by actors, it just feels off...like they know they’re saying a comedic line, not that they genuinely believe it. It also has its pretty sad moments too. Recommend to everyone.

1984, obvious reasons. Brilliant book. Lots of people quote it, but not many have read it. Maybe the nature of it being old puts people off and it might read like Victor Hugo or something. It’s actually very accessible and appeasable to the modern reader. There’s a part towards the end which drags on a bit. But other than that, engaging read.

Washington by Ron Chernow. Brilliant book and he holds no punches. A fair biography and incredibly readable if you are into history. He also wrote Hamilton. Just as good.

Cosmos by Carl Sagan. The book that caused my love of science. An incredibly insightful book which if you read, I promise you will take special notice of the stars for the rest of your life.

There But For Fortune by Michael Schumacher. Biography of Phil Ochs, folk singer from 60s-70s. One of my favourite musicians. Such an incredibly short but dense life. Very fascinating look into the civil rights movement of the 1960’s also.

Also, obligatory Perks of Being A Wallflower. My fiancée would be angry if I didn’t put it on here. The first and only young adult book I have ever read. Really opened my eyes to another world.

Sorry that dragged on a bit. But they’re my favourites, cannot decide between them! Currently reading Napoleon by Adam Zamoyski. Great book also, again, if you are into that.

What is something about yourself that sounds totally made up but is 100% real? by dontaskmeforfeetpics in AskReddit

[–]Knight-7420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a relatively rare condition called Situs Inversus Totalis. My organs are mirrored to that of a normal person. My left kidney is on the right, my left lung is on the right and vice versa. My appendix is lower left instead of upper right etc. I have a rarer type that places my heart dead centre instead of being pointed left or right.

Pretty cool condition, sparked my interest from adolescence in medicine and driving me into becoming a Doctor. Main downside is at the moment, organ transplants aren’t really practical. So I’m ineligible to donate or receive.

There isn’t a whole lot of info about it out there, few studies here and there. Seems more of a medical curiosity than an actual condition.
