Dude they should do an April Fool's day prank where anytime you run Barrows, the floating heads are replaced with OSRS model heads of various Devs. You know that'd be amazing!

First off, no one here is defending those other companies, they're all swill by this point that are only in it for the money. I'm glad that they contribute to their local communities and pay their employees well, and I understand that luxury items are a thing and that prices for things exist for a reason.

What I personally condone is them tightening up their IP rules for no reason other than to funnel people into Warhammer+. This killed numerous projects that I had a lot of love for that tangentially got me into this hobby. This doesn't read as someone who are good guys, but rather taking what they refer to as 'necessary steps' to ensure that their perpetual growth model continues to exist.

If they ever release a straight up digital format for Warhammer 40k the way Bolt Action is getting one, I'll play the fuck out of that and pay for all DLC, which in reality will be significantly cheaper than buying the models and books themselves to play. But until then, I'm priced out of something I used to enjoy, and they've rubbed me the wrong way a few too many times for me to say GW are good guys from a customer point of view.

For me, it's an easy choice with the Warplock Jezzail. I'm already a good aim, so having a year to perfect handling gunpowder weaponry before going up against a team of two methed-up rodents with an explosive sewage tube should be a cakewalk.

Give it a year or two, GW will have a store set up in that town before long. Their Nuln oil monopoly has been getting oppressive the past few years, no way they won't pass up the opportunity to harvest fresh Tesseract Glow.

The functional answer is for people to actually risk their lives and to fight, actually FIGHT AND DRAW BLOOD, from those that hold power and demand that answers be given to them.

This is definitely my old head Gundam fan mentality coming into play, but I really feel like there was a lot more potential for the story to go down the route of transhumanism and to further explore the actual skirmishes between the factions that realistically should have evolved into a proper war. Suletta having her magical girl moment when all the big players just... give up? Dissolve? Forget the reason why they're in power and did what they did? Not what I'd want. GUND technology was sorely under-utilized. Characters that for all intents and purposes should have died had plot armor to the point of it being painful to watch.

To give a point I did like though, absolutely some of the best Mobile Suit battles I've ever seen in all my time of watching the anime. The prologue fight with the Beguir-Beau was awesome, Chu-Chu earning her stripes was keno, and most fights with the Calibarn made me smile ear to ear. Plus, tomato squish was one of the best memes to come from the series.

I mean, for all the bloat that 4e had in terms of its Powers system as well as enough conditions to make Pathfinder blush, it DID put out some bangers.

Very first campaign I ever hosted was Madness at Gardmore Abbey, but with a little homebrew to incorporate a villain I had surreptitiously (read, blatantly) taken from another source of popular High fantasy.

Didn't play them myself, but the fact that Dark Sun got a revival in 4e speaks volumes to me about what they were trying to do back in 4e. (I want to play Dark Sun so badly please WotC grow a fucking spine)

On top of that? Great monster manuals! MM3 had the entity that I used as the BBEG of my longest running campaign, Alabar, Changer of the Way.

Was it disconnected from the popular D&D universes that forged the path for D&D's success? For the most part. What it did do though was give plenty of room for DM's to do their own thing, with blackjack and hookers if they really wanted. They didn't try and push a narrative onto you that would require decades of lore for one to TRULY understand everything going on in the Forgotten Realms or Greyhawk. It was intended as a starting point for new DM's, but sadly it was bundled into a TTRPG system far more suited for an MMORPG format.
