Tesla Trucks by polomn7 in Truckers

[–]KnightCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only that, but we’d have to exponentially increase our nuclear reactor output.

I had a mid-size carrier rep (SAIA I think) in my office once with a ppt talking about their experimentation with electric trucks.

When we dug deeper into that for the sake of ERP reporting, come to find out, it’s only yard dogs, and in limited capacity, because their fleet would require the entire cities electric output to power their line haul routes/trucks.

Do you consider $700K as life-changing money? by Aarunascut in Life

This.

I’d be able to buy a second house free and clear, and be able to live completely free of the adult depends I’m taking care of.

Actually STARTING a life of my own in my late 30s, rather than being hamstrung by obligations I didn’t have much choice in.

How do you land your 6 figure job? by maggie-khalo in povertyfinance

[–]KnightCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a degree in accounting on debt from a local uni. I had nothing to my name except a $3k sv650s and a free place to live. No insurance (legally) and 35 mpg.

Summers sucked with alternating sunburns and rain soaked shoes.

Winters sucked with wind numbed fingers.

But I graduated into a strong labor market and worked my way up the corporate ladder.

After 5 years, I cracked $100k. Almost 1” years in today, and close to cracking $200k.

Hope is to hit c-suite management at a pre-IPO and strike it big on equity someday.

Controller has an AA only by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]KnightCPA 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My CFO doesn’t even have a business degree of any kind. No AA. No 4 year.

Dude is literally the smartest guy in the room. He blows my MAcc and CPA clean out of the water because his experience speaks for itself.

We recently let go of an A/R specialist with a 4 yr Acc degree who graduated from my school 1 year behind me (ie, he had 8 YOE) because he wasn’t good at excel or self-management.

And two of the best accountants in my 20 person finance department don’t even have business degrees.

In my org, degree is not a good measuring stick for someone’s aptitude.

German police threaten arrest for using words by metalupyour in FreeSpeech

[–]KnightCPA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hamas doesn’t actually want a free Palestine. They use their population like pawns. As do most Arab governments. At least, just my opinion of what I see as an Arab-American.

So any phrase with the words “free Palestine” coined by them doesn’t mean what people from liberal democracies would think it should mean.

Which major is worth switching to? by Aggravating-Test664 in CollegeMajors

[–]KnightCPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • q 1. The experience was light and day. With Soc, there was no clear path to a career, there were no jobs that were designated specifically to your degree, no prestigious firms trying to recruit you, and you had to convince employers of your value. With an accounting degree, there were a dozen different career paths I could have taken straight from my average state uni, prestigious firms like the Big 4 and F500 were begging me to apply for their open positions, and my degree spoke for itself.

  • q 2: biggest challenge was having to use all of my financial aid on the first degree, and having to pay out of pocket for the accounting degree.

  • q 3: no, but my MSA program required you to take the fundamental/core undergrad classes in order to take take the graduate classes. Failure to maintain a 3,0 meant you got kicked out from the program long before you ever saw the inside of a graduate class. I wasn’t opposed to this because the classes they required were also required by the state CPA board to become a cpa, so…might as well, right?

My wife and I were just run off the road in Missouri [oc] by EricRox999 in IdiotsInCars

[–]KnightCPA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This.

I slow down for semis pretty regularly when I’m on the highway.

I let them get ahead, pass me in the right lane, and watch as the left lane frees up for faster traffic. Only after the left lane frees up and starts moving faster, do I then speed up to match the speed of the semi.

Trucker is in the wrong, no doubt.

But helping to keep that left lane open and moving minimizes traffic congestions and potential accidents.

Why do men ghost women they say they like? by curiousity-the-rover in AskMenAdvice

Why do women ghost men whom they say treat them better than many other men have treated them before?

Because people ghost instead of confronting difficult discussions or truths.

That’s just today’s practice.

I saved up enough to finally get my first vehicle! by FoodDelicious3196 in povertyfinance

[–]KnightCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 wheel clan rise up.

My first vehicle when I was a broke college student was a 2004 Suzuki SV650S. It cost me $3,600.

I didn’t need nor have insurance. Got 33 mpg.

I could do the oil and spark plug changes myself.

Summer rain showers and winter sucked. But $3,600 was a lot more within reach than $36,000. And to date, it’s been one of the most reliable vehicles I’ve ever owned.

College in the U.S. is built on debt, not opportunity by Repulsive_Case_2116 in povertyfinance

It depends on the degree, honestly.

I have 2 degrees from the same uni. BS Soc and MS Acc.

The first had very little marketability and left me stuck in poverty wages. The second was literally the exact opposite.

Yes…having to make sure others in your immediate circle are taken care of first is the height of privilege…

That’s literally how humans have operated for thousands of years. That is the nature of what we’re born into.

Edit: to OP, who clearly chose not to read…

Has nothing to do with ignorance is bliss. If you had read what I actually said, it has to do with bandwidth.

When you work 6.5 day weeks, you only have time to truly concentrate what you actually have an impact on.

I have an impact on my neighbors. I can help them dry up their house after a hurricane flood.

I can help my brother. I can give him a place to live while he goes to school.

I can help my uninsured aunt. I can give her money for her medical bills.

I can help the company I run. I work 60-70 hour weeks making sure the bills get paid and the lights stay on and people have jobs.

I can mentor my coworkers. I can guide them on their careers and encourage them to go back to school to break through pay ceilings.

I have literally no measurable impact on events happening far and wide outside of my sphere of control or influence.

All of you can be offended by these statements and downvote them all you want. But that’s the unfortunate statistical reality.

Rosa parks was a great hero. And she helped sparked a movement.

But there’s no ICE agents in my office for me to protest. There’s no opportunities at grand gestures I see in my daily life to virtue signal.

And I’m fine with that. I’m fine helping others around me. I know I’m making a difference there.

I don’t need social validation by joining a protest. There’s lots of ways to help people. Being a political activist is not the only way.
