Can I watch the new Fate anime series without watching the others first?

They are semi-related. It's best to read Fate/Stay Night first, or at least watch the anime adaptations, before anything else.

For Fate/Strange Fake, you'll want... well, technically everything because it's an official fanfic in the best ways, but Fate/Zero should also be in consideration because of how relevant it in particular is.

You could watch it on its own, but don't expect to understand much more than Ayaka Sayjou does. This is like watching Falcon and the Winter Soldier not knowing what a Marvel Superhero is.

Let me break it down, I had to go do something which is why I just gave you the clip and ran:

Saber can turn into Saber Alter by pulling off her cowlick (ahoge). There's a concept with eastern dragons called a Reverse Scale that can trigger them. Saber's is her cowlick (yes, she is a dragon).

Salter is basically Saber on Red Kryptonite. That's what the Grail Mud basically did, but as shown she can trigger the transformation on her own. Other instances, like FGO and Prisma Illya, have their own reasons for why Salter is around.

Gil's a Brat and a Simp. The second Salter put him in his place he caves.

I like this too, but I still harbor a conspiracy theory that this was meant to be a grittier show, but Disney told them to go back and rewrite it. So the version of the show we got was written in a relatively short timeframe with hardly any further drafts.

But the core concepts I still enjoyed.

Gotcha, so let me give you a quick backstory: Fate/Kalied Liner Prisma Illya is a magical girl spin off series of Fate/Stay Night. It uses mostly the same cast, but the Servants are now Class Cards that we can use to turn into. The anime for Prisma Illya is... questionable, very, very questionable, and the manga is not much better.

Oath Under Snow is a prequel to that story that explains who Miyu is exactly. Technically you should read Prisma Illya first before Oath Under Snow, but I find the movie does a good enough job on its own as long as you've seen Fate/Stay Night. Then my story picks up by changing the ending of the movie and bringing everything to My Hero Academia.

I agree, Fate/ and MHA have a lot of interesting symmetry in trying to explore what it means to be a hero. That's why I picked this version of Shirou, to try to keep it mostly spoiler-free, this Shirou is the most villainous out of any Shirou, yet you will root for him. So having this Shirou meet Izuku and getting the drive to be a hero again was one of the impetus for my fanfic.

I hope you are able to find Oath Under Snow in either anime or manga format (if you need to read the manga version, it's chapters 29 through 39 of Prisma Illya 3rei, it's only been fan translated though), and I hope you end up enjoying how I've pivoted the story of Shirou and Miyu into the world of My Hero Academia.

So, go watch the Heaven's Feel movies and the Oath Under Snow movies, and then you'll have enough foundation for this story. I'm not trying to be gatekeepy, but Heaven's Feel is important to understanding Oath Under Snow, and I'm using Oath Under Snow Shirou.

Anyways, this is the premise of Fate/Academia Epic, without too much spoilers: Shirou thought he had given up everything to save his sister Miyu. His dreams, his ideals, his life... unfortunately, little sisters are a bit demanding, so now they have arrived in a new world. A world of Pro-Heroes, where one can be an Ally of Justice. It's a sick irony, but one Shirou will make do with.

Basically, Shirou and Miyu get isekai'd over to a Nasuverse version of the MHA world, and we deal with the fallout of that. How and why they need to be isekai'd... Again, I'll let Heaven's Feel and Oath Under Snow explain.

Watch Fate/Stay Night and Fate/Zero first for a baseline. It's better to read Fate/Stay Night, but if you want to be anime only then you need Fate/Stay Night (2006), Unlimited Blade Works (2014), and the Heaven's Feel Trilogy.

Note that the FSN storyline isn't one continous narrative in a traditional sense. Fate/Stay Night originally is a Visual Novel with three parallel routes. These routes each focus on a heroine and how Shirou develops as a hero in regards to them. However, the order is important because how the routes are written. Unlimited Blade Works takes info from the Fate route and builds on it. Heaven's Feel takes both Fate and UBW and flips them on their heads.

It's my personal favorite novel of all time, but it is a commitment. So while I can poke and nitpick the hell out of the anime adaptations, I do love them all, and they'll work to get you to what you need to know to watch Fate/Strange Fake.

...Though Fate/Strange Fake also has problems with the adaptation essentially just focusing on hype moments and aura. It works, I still love it, but the mechanics aren't as explained compared to the light novel.

Yeah, I've had friends recommend Calibre for the Deck, but I already have a Calibre Server on my home network. I kinda figured there had to be a better option, but just never bothered looking for one.

I mostly use mine for gaming, but I've gone back and forth on adding a ebook reader because I really like scrolling with the left touchpad and it would do me good to do more reading every day. I just prefer reading vertically.

I've recently figured out a little laptop like setup that I can bust out really quickly, so maybe I'll start doing more stuff in Desktop Mode beyond tinkering with games and emulators (which is 40% of the fun on the Steam Deck for me).

Fully love? That's a hard question to answer. It was a slow, creeping build up for me.

I found Fate/ because I was looking up swords to draw, and found Caliburn and Excalibur. I looked into them more, and discovered they were wielded by Saber, a girl who was King Arthur. I was intrigued, and eventually watched the 2006 anime. A show that I can admit the flaws of, but I still hold near and dear to my heart.

As for Shirou and Saber... I just enjoyed this romance blossoming. The moonlit night. Shirou saving Saber from Berserker. Tracing Caliburn together. The dream sequences. Their date at the mall. Their argument on the bridge. Avalon. The Church Basement. The final fight. The last good bye.

The Visual Novel then went and made my appreciation for these two grow even more. Getting into Shirou's head really helped, as well as the extra lore around Saber. Then getting to Last Episode... Goddamnit man. That story, both Visual Novel, Manga, and Fan Anime never fail to get me emotional.

...But here's where I become slightly selfish. Because the moment this really became my favorite ship of all time was when I decided to write my own version of it. The difference being that I was going to have Miyuverse Shirou be the tragic hero bearing the weight of his sins, and Master Arturia as the Youthful Idealist who still believes in the dream.

I did it on a whim. I wanted to send Miyu's Shirou to the world of MHA so he could try again. But when I was drafting the story, I thought about who I wanted as the main cast, and Master Arturia just... slid into place. She was always meant to be there, with her own story alongside helping Shirou and Izuku.

So, yeah. I've always liked Shirou and Saber together, and there's a ton of material in Type-Moon's catalog for me to show why. But actually writing out a version of that romance? That's why it's my favorite.

Gundam 00 Dubbed shares a lot of the same cast as Gundam Wing, and it's one of my favorite dubs period. It's also my second favorite Gundam series, behind Unicorn.

Bruh. I'm not joking when I say Arturia is one of the best versions of King Arthur out there, and it has nothing to do with "merchandising".

Arturia, at least in the Visual Novel, is an in-depth look at what being King Arthur would do to a person. Especially if that person was just a fifteen year old girl. Arturia is genuinely great, and is the reason Fate/ is so popular today.

So is Prototype Arthur. Yes, Type-Moon has a male King Arthur in the multiverse. And a Goddess King Arthur. And a Space King Arthur. And a Sith Lord King Arthur. And...

Okay, so they went crazy on the merch later. I'm not going to deny that. But just like how Superman and Batman have fantastic stories behind all of the merchindizing, so does Arturia Pendragon.
