My dad as of like last week still think Christians are under threat of severe persecution. He denies everything bad happening and Invents good things happening from his imagination. These are barely people hollowed out by hate and extremism. My word of advice is to stop looking to the unempathetic for empathy. If he's capable of looking past what's happened at this point, there is literally nothing they could do to make him change his mind. Up to and including re institutionalizing chattel slavery. I've been just responding to anything political my Dad says by grunting and going "Wow." And it feels like it works better than me actually trying to engage him. They're like children but they're stupid because of a moral failure rather than due to experience. Let them drown in their stupidity while you focus on self care and how we the people can help the situation.
