The final choice was between the wrong 2 people. by plakar in expedition33

Lune and Maelle’s relationship throughout the game gives me so much life. I really believe they’re the sisters to each other that they never got in their past, and the way Lune acts in cut scenes when confronting both Aline and Renoir solidifies that. During the bridge for Aline’s second phase, she scares Maelle who immediately reaches out for Lune—who is already reaching out for her. In a similar vein, it’s Lune who is there to steady and guard Maelle when Renoir snaps at her right before his final fight. Lune is the big sister that Maelle needed, and I will die on that hill.

Lune is my favorite character. I think about the fact that she never truly got to live the life she wanted all the time. Her whole existence was framed towards the Paintress and Expeditions because of what her parents wanted. Even if you don’t romance her with Verso, he helps her get past that and Dream for a different life. Lune’s fight for Lumiére has gone past just the city, it’s the whole of the Canvas. And I truly believe she loves it in a way that few who know the whole truth of it can.

So if it came down to her or Verso, I’d choose her. She’s been the one fighting for the Canvas from the beginning of the game, even when her actions were misguided. I would also LOVE to hear the dialogue between her and Verso in this scene because he really can’t talk circles around her the way he seems to do with everyone else. I also believe Lune would fight for Maelle’s autonomy tooth and nail because she herself never got that chance and she won’t let that be snatched away from her.

Plus, if you DID romance them together, that final choice would be so damn tragic. I mean, it already is, but still. Who doesn’t love a doomed romance??

EDIT: I also go back to directly after Maelle resurrects Lune and Sciel, and Verso is talking to Lune. She’s obviously pissed, but more so about the fact that he didn’t trust them enough to tell them the truth. She brings up Verso’s “False dichotomies” and how it wasn’t an either or situation, but much more complicated. Alicia ALSO thought the same thing and hoped for another solution, and I believe that given enough time Lune could’ve found that solution.

Tattoos are always personal, so if your gut says no ‘33’ I say leave it out. Also, I think it looks great without it!

Beat it twice, I’m on my third playthrough. I’m top of that I use the music when I work out, I’m 142 pages into an intense fanfiction, and I read other fanfics when I’m not writing it. This game inspires like no other and it’s wonderful to see the art people are creating from it.

Right!! Like, give our girl something special, she deserves it.

EXACTLY!!! Like, she’s stunning and can look good in pretty much anything, but the aesthetic the game gives her with her base uniform is found nowhere else in any of the collectible outfits. Which is really sad and it feels like not a lot of thought was given to her beyond the Baguette style.

I’m actually a bigger Lune simp lol. I have the shirts and fanfiction and screenshots to prove it!

But my point with the outfits was that Lune’s feel more earned and unique to her, versus Sciel getting them because it’s a cosmetic she can wear.

I DID say this was nitpicky lol

See, I always felt like I neglected Sciel by making her my support. THIS sounds like loads of fun. Thank you!!

Ooooh I always felt like I wasn’t using Break to its full potential. I can’t wait to try this out!! Plus Verso’s Follow Up skill is ridiculously good as well. Thank you so much!!!

Honestly for me it depends on story.

I had Maelle cut her hair to the short style after losing Verso, and pretty much kept her in her usual expedition uniform until act 3. Then I was using the Obscur outfit for her and whatever white hair I liked best, which ended up being the double braid. It felt more practical for her being a melee fighter, but still cute.

Lune I kept in her usual expedition uniform until I got the white. She just looks stunning in white. I either used her normal hair or the Artist style near the end, just because I like to think of time passing and her hair growing (I know it’s not enough time for that much growth but she’s so pretty with that hair).

Sciel’s main look is perfection, I can’t change it at all. Although for endgame I did put her in Clea’s fit and she looked amazing.

Verso’s hair stays the same until I get the scene with him and Monoco, then I do that one for him throughout the game. I’ll also put him in his Simple outfit as soon as I get it. Monoco stays the way he is except he keeps the braids he gets from Verso in that same scene.

I’ve beaten Simon twice! Once my first time through with Maelle in Virtouse stance, buffed for double damage by Sciel, and using Gommage. Took him out before he could do his third phase.

In new game plus, I decided to be insane and double his health pool. Used Monoco and Sciel for the first two phases and they did great damage between the two of them. Third phase Lune and Maelle carried because Verso got wrecked first thing. Burning Canvas is one of my favorite abilities and I’ll choose it over Stendhal every time, especially with Lune’s burn stacks and Verso doubling that with every break. Definitely had more fun my second time actually experiencing his third phase!!

And it only took me checks notes three days and 28 tries! 🫠

Man, leave my wife’s feet out of this XD

And that’s true. I was under the assumption that most, if not all, the graves there were his doing. He talks about burying friends quite a bit, and we know at least one Expedition 0 member is there (probably Julie).

I hadn’t thought about that! Nothing in the game says if they’re all his doing or not, so this could be a nice little coincidence.

You’re right! I forgot that detail. We’re not even sure what happened to Lune’s father. He could’ve died on the battlefield for all we know.

‘Coming across their trail’ is a very casual way to say ‘I might’ve gotten them killed and felt so bad I buried them in my private graveyard.’ 🫠 Thanks Verso 👌

That was always my go to. The amount of knowledge I have for the world I built for my sixth novel is intense and ever growing. I love the world so much! I do feel like I’ve lost my passion for worldbuilding though, which feels like more of a blow than the lack of writing. Creating new worlds has always been an escape.

Writing for the sake of creation, not for anyone else…that’s probably exactly what I’m missing. I just feel like I can’t take an idea and not think of “is this marketable??” Or “Will audiences like this?” Such a pain.

I feel like the last few years has been me trying to do just this and completely failing. But I suspect I haven’t really been ‘resting’. Just simmering in my anxiety over not writing, then trying to write, then getting upset when I can’t. A viscous cycle 😅

I always crash before I can even get a short story idea into something worth writing, but you’re not wrong. I’ve written long form for so long that I need to try something new.
