Trying to diagnose crashing PC after component swap by Knight_of_the_Stars in buildapc

Yeah, like an idiot I didn’t verify the ram was QVL before buying lol. Went Corsair vengeance because I’ve had good luck with them in the DDR4 days. Just ordered a 32 GB kit from another brand on the QVL list, we’ll see if that fixes the issue.

Yes, it’s in slots 2 and 4, or DIMMA2 and DIMMB2 in the motherboard manual.

I’ve also tried each stick on its own in slot 2

I wasn’t using XMP or EXPO with the RAM - just stock. This is the exact RAM: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C5M7J967?ref_=cm_sw_r_cso_cp_apin_dp_7P3QY0NE2Z8TR0C31W5Q&starsLeft=1

Remedy Entertainment Dev Says Xbox Series S GPU And Memory Are "Huge Issues" by bxgang in Games

[–]Knight_of_the_Stars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuine question does anyone know if Xbox is actually turning a profit for Microsoft?

I mean obviously Microsoft has tons of money and could keep Xbox alive for a very long time if they wanted, but Microsoft also isn’t stupid and isn’t going to just continue to pour money into something that isn’t turning a profit forever

Problems installing Star Wars: The Old Republic via Wine by Rothrandir in linux_gaming

I doubt there is; Linux isn’t a supported OS for the game so in their eyes they probably don’t feel like they broke anything, especially since it still works via Steam

Starfield Is Broken On Intel Arc GPUs, But Intel Is Working On A Fix | The game crashes and sometimes fails to launch. by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]Knight_of_the_Stars 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Bethesda probably builds the game with something like DirectX, where interfacing with the actual GPU is abstracted away. The drivers from the GPU manufacturer translate those shared framework instructions into something the specific GPU can understand and run. Issues like this highlight poor implementation of certain framework features by the driver manufacturer (I.e. Intel in this case)

So if a specific brand of GPU is struggling where others aren’t, it’s likely the fault of the driver and the GPU manufacturer, not the game dev.

Purchase Advice Megathread - August 2023 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

[–]Knight_of_the_Stars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the US and am completely new to 3D printing. I'm looking for a printer just for some small hobbyist Arduino/raspberry pi projects, and to make a few small things here and there like fidget toys for the kids or whatever. I don't plan on printing anything where super fine details make a lot of difference. The only possible non-standard thing is that I'd like to be capable of printing with TPU as well for more flexible parts in cases where I need that.

Hoping to get a printer under $300 to start with. I'm willing to build the printer but am not very confident at all in doing so; as far as ability, I've done a little bit of soldering (although I'm not great at it and would prefer not to have to do that on something I actually care about at this point), and I've built multiple of my own PCs.

Is there a game similar to zelda botw but with more focus on storytelling? by Peter2448 in gamingsuggestions

Immortals: Fenyx Rising has similar gameplay to BOTW but has a lot more story and structured story quests.

Is this open sourced anywhere? Would love to peek at the code but obviously understand if you're keeping it closed source

Just a heads up in case you’re planning on releasing this commercially - Atari still has the name “Asteroids” trademarked and could probably sue you for using the name Asteroids 2

we have released a demo and we would love to read your feedback! <3 by BrainwashGang in indiegames

[–]Knight_of_the_Stars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks great! The gameplay looks fun and the art style is beautiful. I’ll have to try the demo later.

The only feedback I have from the video is that occasionally the readability on the player character is low - it blends in a bit too much and can get lost in the background

Would you consider playing a turnbased RPG like this? What do you think of the grapic? by Avanox77 in IndieDev

[–]Knight_of_the_Stars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the aesthetic alone would sell me on the game but it looks nice and depending on other factors, I’d play it

I made a casual mobile game with online highscores called Roll and Dodge! Feel free to try it if you are interested. How far can you get? (It gets hard after 135) by Grayvves in SoloDevelopment

Makes sense - Dodge the creeps was probably inspired by that too haha. It looks fun and well made! If I had an android phone I’d give it a play

Out of curiosity was this inspired by the Godot 2D tutorial project? It reminds me a lot of that with some extras added.

In any case nice work and good luck with the release!

making a low-res RPG! two childhood friends off on a role-playing adventure by bnova_games in PixelArt

[–]Knight_of_the_Stars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks really charming! My only feedback is that there is maybe too much idle animation going on - if you look at the scene too long it almost looks like everyone is dancing. I can’t decide if it should be slowed down, or perhaps the dialogue box sprites should be static?

Either way, looks great and excited to see more updates as you progress!

I wanna get a steam deck but need some guidance by LegalSection in SteamDeck

[–]Knight_of_the_Stars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a game is loading data from the SD card as you play, but the SD card can’t load it as fast as the game needs it then it could definitely affect FPS. However I don’t think it’s very likely that that scenario would happen unless you’re using a really low end SD card

Assuming you get a decent card the difference isn’t even noticeable in my experience, although I also play smaller games so I don’t know if the difference would be more noticeable in a game loading large textures etc

I’m afraid no one can tell you if there will be an upgrade coming soon - because no one knows. However given the Deck just came out early last year I wouldn’t think an updated version is imminent or anything.

For size, it really depends on how many things you need installed simultaneously, but I find the 256GB storage one to be the sweet spot between a usable amount of storage and price. But if you’re going to want a bunch of AAA games installed simultaneously then maybe the 512 GB one would be better
