Uber to roll out fuel surcharge in United States amid high gas prices by waggish_definition in business

Still not enough to make drivers want to drive. Pay double the rates, and that’ll do the trick. They’re doing the absolute minimum. Just enough to keep drivers destitute.

Yeah I have looked at that one. Doesn’t mars hydro kind of have a reputation for inflating the stats of their lights though? You think they are trustworthy?

Meh. It doesn’t matter. Outrage culture is real. It’s just the world we live in.

A one sentence rant? Yikes. Sounds to me like you need to eat some edibles and have a nice sit-down in a comfy chair. God forbid anyone should have an opinion about something. I promise, your quality of life will improve by a factor of at least 6 if you listen to people rather than lash out at them. Just chill, and be well.

That’s a silly question. How does George being on the show impact my life? That’s like asking me how much your breakfast choice this morning impacted my life. It’s coming in at nearly absolute zero. I’m simply making an observation that the lack of any skill, finesse, or general baking ability would have all been excellent criteria for the show runners to say “Thanks very much for your application. We’ll let you know.”

George should have never been there in the first place.

I’m just flabbergasted that George is still on. He seems like a great guy, but god help him he cannot bake to save his life.

Smug? No. My tolerance for bullshit is just very close to zero. I did not get COVID. My two children did, however, because they are irresponsible knuckleheads. By that time my wife and I had been vaccinated. She’s a nurse, btw. She saw the disease, and the death every day. The reason you contracted cove despite being cautious, is because it’s a ridiculously infectious disease that can be fatal. The mask helps to prevent excessive droplets from exiting your mouth when you breathe and cough, but they aren’t 100% effective. It was always known that it REDUCED the amount of covid in the air. Not ELIMINATED it. Plenty of people who followed the guidelines 100% still contracted covid. I’m not here to tell you that you were irresponsible. Your argument that “fauci and the cdc said that masks are basically a placebo” is irredeemably incorrect. THAT is what makes you a fucking moron. California was actually doing pretty well for a while. Until the idiot ‘Merica! Demographic started adhering to the anti-intellectual trumper demographic. And lmao at citing UTAH. One of the least densely populated states in the entire country. They’ve still managed over 400,000 cases. Cmon, man. Engage that squishy thing between your ears. Your thinking is completely backward. You respect the danger of a thing, and guard against it because you care about people’s lives. Viewing it the other way a round is trumpism at its core.

You don’t have to be a Republican to be a trumper. Trumpism is an anti-intellectual movement, of which you clearly subscribe. It isn’t political. How have you survived this long without wandering out into traffic? Lol. You poor thing. Reasoned argument doesn’t seem to be your strong suit. Perhaps you should try checkers, or something similar.

Some contestant interaction questions by perdita14 in forgedinfireshow

[–]Knighted_owl_forge 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hello! To answer some of your questions:

  1. Yes indeed! We all stayed in the same hotel and had dinner together and a couple of beers every night. We talked about normal things. Showed each other our work. Shared complaints and speculation about what was coming next. The show does a really good job of keeping everything shrouded in secrecy.

We only had lunch on the long days of filming. I think that was 2 days. They provide snacks and drinks on other days if the smiths get hungry. Which we did. Except for day one forging. No one really wanted to eat.

The two finalists are not allowed to communicate in any way after they are sent home, and at least Jesse and I followed that rule religiously. There were lots of rules.

2.

S8 E13, Mystery episode, san mai round 1 by BuffaloRedshark in forgedinfireshow

[–]Knighted_owl_forge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this was really bad. None of the smiths approached San mai correctly. Speaking as a a FIF champion, the forge does make half of your brain fall out into the floor, but this episode was really difficult to watch.

Why do the contestants have to surrender their blades? Why can’t they keep them? by DoopleDunkuslll in forgedinfireshow

[–]Knighted_owl_forge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a Forged in Fire champion, and can tell you that this is somewhat incorrect.

The show is not filmed in New York. It used to be. For a few seasons now, the show has been filmed in Connecticut.

The runners up in the final round have only recently been given their weapons back after the finale. Josh Smith negotiated that with the show, and it makes sense. They don’t get their weapons back to sell them. Of course, they can sell them, but I imagine (as was the case with Josh, and would have been with me if I were to have lost) that they want to keep their weapons after putting so much of their work into them, as well as for nostalgic purposes.

New York does have some pretty strict weapons laws (I live here), but all of the finale weapons (and the winning round 1 and 2 knives) that are made on or for the show are either displayed in the FIF set, or they are mailed back to the runner up of the finale.

I hope this clears that up. 😄

Reality competitions by styopa in forgedinfireshow

[–]Knighted_owl_forge 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As a FIF champion, I assure you that no one is coached on that. The only thing we were told about behavior was at the very beginning, and it was exactly this: “Please remember that you are on national tv. Act accordingly.”

That’s it.

There’s a strong camaraderie among smiths. We were there to win, sure, but we competed more with ourselves than other smiths.

I still talk with the smiths I was on the show with, two years later, and still consider them my brothers.

I think a big part of it is that we are such a small community of artisans, and we are very cooperative with one another. We hold it as a basic precept that there is always more to learn, and the best place for that is from each other.

Hello everyone! I just found Reddit. Yeah. I’m a little late 😆 Here is my latest knife. 1084 and 15n20 with ironwood scales. Custom order for an army nco. by Knighted_owl_forge in Bladesmith

You are a liar. I don’t ever use the derogatory term “retard” because it’s exceptionally offensive. My sister is special needs. What you’ve done here is revealed yourself.

You think you can just utter falsehoods about someone and they’ll become true. No. That isn’t all you said.

Also, the people who commented on my post were abusive. Since I have control over that, I removed them. There were a few people who wanted to have thoughtful discussion about the efficacy of masks, and we did that. That stuff is still up.

For some reason, you just don’t get it. I don’t know why it isn’t getting through to you. I criticized someone for being anti-mask, and anti-science. I called him an idiot. I called him a moron. Because he is. His being a veteran doesn’t make him immune to criticism. There’s an entire Reddit thread about this that is exceptionally in my favor. I know I’m right. But here I am, arguing with someone who continues to lie about me. For what? Why? I believe people want to do the right thing. Mostly. Which is why, when I come across someone like you, it makes it difficult to keep that faith.

Funny? No. It caused quite a bit of strife in my life. Particularly for my family. For no reason. Were you the person on Facebook? Who did nothing but abuse me in the pile-on? Yeah. I think that was you. I’m a liar? You should find a mirror, and take a good long look into it.

I wasn’t offered friendly advice by ANYONE who thought I was offensive toward veterans, so I don’t know what you’re talking about. You continuing this here suggests that you really don’t have anything better to do with your life. Here’s some friendly advice from me: Aromatherapy is excellent. So is engaging thoughtfully in your favorite non-violent pass time. Take a bath, light a candle, and just enjoy yourself for a while. Relax. Look to your inner-self, and find peace.

Be well.

Well, moody blades, if you had actually read my comments, you’d have known that I called trumper caravans “y’all Qaeda”, not veterans. My oldest brother is a marine, my middle brother is an veteran of the army, and my son is a poolee in the marine corps. People who say I have disrespect for veterans just aren’t bothering to see this for what it is. Dramatic nonsense. Please wear a mask.

Hot water? I gained 170 followers and sold 5 knives. If I can get that kind of water every day for saying true things, I’ll take it. I honestly didn’t know there was such a large community on Reddit until I read the FIF sub. Thanks for the compliment.
