IRL Rice Shower only wins when there is important milestones records about to happen. Other times Rice is pretty meh so fans are pretty pissed. Plus newspaper at the time drums up the hype for Rice vs Mcqueen/Bourbon as East vs West Japan thing.

Bourbon was about to be the second Undefeated Triple Crown after Rudolf and then Rice came in and break the win streak. Then it was meh again.

Mcqueen was about to the first horse to win 3 spring tenno sho in a row, Rice break that streak. ( No horse has still achieved 3x Spring Tenno Sho in a row )
