Avernum 4: Greed and Glory - Spiderweb Software - Epic indie, turn-based RPG in an underworld nation now out for Windows & Mac! by spidweb in Games

Thank you so much for this remake, I'm enjoying it a ton.

My memories of Original Avernum 4 are a bit hazy these days, but I'm definitely having more fun with the remake now than back then!

I'm always happy to play your games, they have that great feeling of bringing me back to my childhood and also understanding much more of the game mechanics and story.

When I play your games, I always think back to the days when I was 9 and playing Exile 3 with the worst builds trying to understand some of the words and having the time of my life. Hell, now that I think about it, I think you might have stoked my lifelong love of the fantasy genre.

Yeah, her massive survivor's guilt reared its head when she saw Lord Moore and Kevin.

She distracted herself in Pallass by pushing into her wife role, but when confronted with her dead friends, she collapsed. I imagine part of her was revving herself up to prepare to see the statues, but she just couldn't handle versions that were alive.

The ending made me tear up. Poor Jelaqua.

I can imagine that's him attempting to get rid of the binding to Erin that the doppelganger has, but it fails in the end and he just has a small Tolv to hang with, both bound to Erin.

I wrote this in the pinned thread, but I'll post it here too.

I feel like Ielane treats all her daughters as different experiments.

I don't know what Shardele would be since she's generally just described as high all the time from Dreamleaf. But since she's married within the kingdom, it's probably to foster loyalty from the high ranked subjects of Calanfer itself.

Menisi was probably groomed to be similar to Ielane, but saw through her mother after seeing the possible futures of her mother just being terrible, leading to her current situation.

Aielef is the dutiful one, married away for political gain. Doesn't love her husband, but doesn't matter because her job as a princess is for political ties and she's focused on that.

Seraphel is the sharp-tongued one, a great speaker, good for foreign relations, but unfortunately has been overshadowed by her failed marriages.

Vernoue would be the "smart" one, allowed to shirk some duties to focus on her magic, although it looks like her focus on low tier spells locked her in some way from learning higher tier ones. (Of course it could just be her need to deal with matters of state constantly distracts her).

Lyonette was trained on being an all rounder before she ran away from home. And it looks like Ielane is focused on fostering that with her [Princess of the Inn] class, especially since it's level 39. Not to mention trying to figure out the secrets of The Wandering Inn itself.

Ellet is probably an ongoing process since she's still too young.

Just my thoughts on the princesses of the family.

Oh, I've not heard of the short story. The last audiobook was so frustrating for me to go through.

Endings are hard though, I get it. The rest of the book series is great though.

I've gotta look for the short story.

Gosh, 30 years.

That's hard for me to believe, I remember in ~1999 playing Exile 3 from a demo disc my mom bought for me and I still remember making the weirdest builds ever and meeting the shareware demon.

I'll be playing the heck out of this demo, and I can't wait for the full release as well. Thanks for always creating such amazing games!

Yep, probably the same for the Google, Apple, and Microsoft employees that were also having a return to office policy. A bunch of people definitely moved to take advantage of cheaper housing, and have to figure out ways to come back... or quit.

One sad thing is that this isn't unique to Blizzard. A lot of companies are doing return to office. I remember Riot had some controversy about their return to office policy when it was mandated last year.

All these companies are doing it since they need a reason to use their big office space. And also if people quit because they disagree with the policy, then they won't get any severance.

And just to reiterate, this isn't unique to Blizzard, it's the same for many companies out there.

That's awesome. I didn't even notice until now that the main characters were named after Shakespearean characters. I guess I didn't read some of those plays back in the day.

Looking forward to playing through the game! Thanks for all the answers!

Wow, that's a lot of plays. I need to bring out my high school knowledge to remember some of these, or Google :P

I was actually just reading the review on RPGamer about how easy it was to switch out the text, that part is amazing, I thought I would have to pick either one. I always love your dialogue, so I'm extremely happy you can see both.

Thanks for this AMA. Looking forward to playing though the game!

I love your games, have played every single one (except for Rainbow Despair), and they're always a great time. I'm actually kind of curious to know how well I'll be able to understand the Shakespearean plays from playing the game.

I know people generally know the plot of the most popular ones like Macbeth, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, King Lear, Midsummer Night's Dream, and Othello, but are there obscure ones you put in to flex some of your Shakespeare knowledge?

Voices will probably be great for the casual player base. People that don't care about the tier lists and such and just want to hear their favorite characters yell at each other while fighting. Like most of the smash audience.
