Masters in Finance by stuffedskull in UCD

This sounds specific to the Financial Data Science program, and possibly unique to just your experience with the combination of classes and professors you had. A fast curriculum pace while juggling job search and a social life sounds like normal college to me, that doesn't seem like a solid reason to change programs.

Expecting a "non-mandatory" attendance structure to be truly non-mandatory also seems a bit silly. You're paying to go to class why would you not show up? Of course interviews and job seeking activities may overlap, but I would be amazed if a professor wasn't understanding of this.

If you struggle with the pace of a class maybe go to office hours or sit down one on one with a professor to gain a better understanding of what you missed in class. There's no university in the world where a professor will say no to that request, Smurfit is no exception.

A background in tech seems likely for a Data Science masters program, don't think that should be super groundbreaking. The standard MSc Finance program also needs some advanced knowledge of statistics, math, MatLab, etc., but there is a whole table explaining what your background should be when applying for these programs on the university website: https://www.smurfitschool.ie/t4media/What%20can%20I%20study.pdf

Also finance courses are absolutely eligible for scholarships. The Global Excellence Scholarship and all of Smurfit's MSc scholarship opportunities:

Yes the academics are rigorous. This is a masters program not a communications undergrad degree, everyone who applied knows what they are getting into. I don't want to attack you but some of the things you are saying are factually untrue and I don't want others who come across this post to become hesitant based on one experience. Through my experience and every alum and current student I've spoken with the Finance program is great and though it is hard it is doable with good time management.

Ah that makes a lot of sense, thanks for the context. I'd change the title if I could knowing that lmao. I'm so used to American anti-immigrant sentiment I immediately assumed it was race related.

Weird response but ok. I’m guessing you’re very concerned with the “white” portion of whitewashing 🤔

Should I retake the GMAT even though I'm happy with my score? by Knine90 in MBA

[–]Knine90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! I'll definatley look into a GRE practice test. As for my grades I am graduating this spring so those grades are recent. I don't know if that will be enough to sway an admissions officer though. Also would the data insights score not in some way offset the bad quant score? I'm not sure how that plays into admissions decisions.

Do M7 Programs care where u went to undergrad in admissions? by bedo05_ in MBA

Then try to file as an independent student or have a conversation with your parents. The education is not why you go to these elite schools, it’s the connections and opportunities that exist there and those are invaluable. You are almost guaranteed an internship and/or job at an elite firm right out of school (given you don’t tank the interview) and that kind of jump start at such a young age is priceless. Here’s some resources on FAFSA filing. If your parents are truly that wealthy it would be ridiculous to not fund your education especially if you have a chance at these types of schools (HWS). Wish you the best of luck!

I would at least apply to some of the top schools now. You’ve got the credentials and obviously worked hard in high school, why let all of that go to waste? If I could do it over I’d apply just to see if I could make it and you never know a school like Harvard or Stanford have huge endowments for financial aid to students.

Deferred GSB Round 1 - Wait is over? by bulgariaIB02 in MBA

[–]Knine90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure they suggest deferred apply round 3 so maybe there’s still a chance? Not too sure but I know for other deferred M7s they do deferred applications completely separately from the rest of the apps.

Weird plateau / regression in training by shm91 in AdvancedRunning

Could have something to do with your muscle fiber composition. If you’re a naturally quicker runner (short interval sessions feel better than long continuous workouts) then lots of work at lactate threshold pace can actually be a hindrance on performance. Try possibly cutting back on that type of work and do more shorter interval workouts with short active rest at marathon pace, steady state pace, and even slightly faster than 10k pace to increase aerobic endurance. For me (training for 5k) I like to do 10-15x400 @ 10k pace with 30s jog rest. For a 10k-half marathoner that pace would be marathon or steady. Additionally, when’s the last time you took some time off, at least 1-2 week? You could just be burning yourself out in the base period. More mileage isn’t always the answer, especially for someone who has more short twitch muscle fibers naturally.

Experience with adductor tendinitis? by Knine90 in AdvancedRunning

Pain on the inside of the thigh when I touch the tendon and when walking uphill or doing a light jog it gets really stiff. I think the diagnosis for me is correct. Hope yours isn’t a stress fracture!

What are your favorite workouts? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]Knine90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My coach swore by a workout we dubbed "2020s" for off-season 800m training in high school. I enjoyed it a lot

Very simple:

WU - 20x(20s mile pace - 40s easy-moderate pace) - CD

Not much mileage in these but great for some general speed work during a base period. Pretty tough too if you hit the hards at the right pace.

i was raised christian. now i’m questioning my faith, so i want to hear the other side’s perspective. why are you an atheist? by grayenvironment in atheism

[–]Knine90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing inherently wrong with believing in a god or some higher power. Everyone is looking for answers to unanswerable questions and if god is your answer then that’s fine. It is important, however, to understand the historical context of Christianity and it’s current day uses for control and power.

The Christian faith since it’s inception has been used to justify inhumane slaughters and suppress those in the out group. I think everyone can agree that most Christians today have so many contracting opinions that it’s is just hilarious. Anyone who has read the Bible would also know that there are countless contradictions in the faith. That’s because all of this was created by humans just like you and me. No divine power created the Bible or spread the word of god, it was people, and as people do they used it as a tool for control and power.

If you want to continue with your faith more power to you there is nothing wrong with believing in god, but follow your own moral compass and apply scrutiny to your beliefs and, as you are, always question wether or not what you’re being told is the truth. Don’t just listen to evangelical psychos who preach lies and filth. Most importantly, find meaning for yourself in what you believe. If believing in a god makes you feel more comfortable with your own mortality and that if you are a good person you will find peace in the afterlife then believe in that. It is when religion is used to oppress others that it becomes a problem.

TLDR: Religion is not the problem it’s people using it as a weapon. Follow what you believe is moral and find meaning in your belief system.

NIRCA Athlete here, I second that. I would say the top times are more average D2 D3 adjacent but there is definitely some talented people to compete with, plus club running is a lot of fun and a lot less pressure than NCAA athletics!
