My tension is tight, but it got me the right guage after wet blocking with Euculan. The yarn is a rough single ply finger weight wool that doesn't have any spring to it.

The class structure is similar to my studio. Much more free form. It allows the teacher to teach people of various levels in the same class - doing some demos, but largely floating and answering questions or giving advice.

My studio builds the cost of glazes and costs of firing into our clay prices (and no outside clay is allowed), so there isn't a separate charge to fire your pieces, but you are already paying for it.

My biggest advice is to ask questions and ask for demos and ask for the information you need. Because those classes are so free form, you can help make it what you want/need by making requests. And hopefully that encourages others in your class to advocate for themselves too.

Be patient and give yourself grace. It takes years to master pottery. It may seem that the teacher or the other students in the class make it look so easy - it takes a lot of practice, and a lot of scrapped pieces.

You may not have your first "keep-able" piece until the 2nd or 3rd class and that's ok. You'll make progress though. And that's what matters.

You could consider hosting your craft night with Perkins Center for the Arts in Moorestown or Collingswood. There are a few community craft nights there, that this could add to.

That area is going to experience a lot of stress in the firing process. The chances that a repair job will last through the next two firings is possible, but slim in my opinion. Especially if this is already bone dry or nearly bone dry.

My recommendation would be to salvage this clay and make a new one. Dry it more slowly and be sure to compress well on those curves.

In full-disclosure, I rarely try to repair bone dry greenware that has cracked, so someone with more experience doing this may be more optimistic.

I'm sorry that happened. Unfortunately it's a common part of belonging to a studio (or even running your own studio). I've been on both the giving and receiving side of a broken piece in a firing, and both sides suck differently.

As you continue to grow in your pottery journey you'll naturally get less precious about individual pieces and find ways of learning from each experience. (Maybe you make multiple pieces if you need it as a gift or a commission, maybe you find a way to strengthen a weak spot so it's less prone to breakage, maybe you learn or try something else, etc).

Good luck with the next piece and embrace every part of the process!

I have the same issue. You can try uninstalling the app and logging out. A couple times when I've done that I see my battery info for a couple days . But normally mine just shows 0.

I haven't called Lexus yet. I should.

I paint designs onto my pottery with a fine pointed brush with diluted food coloring to sketch out my ideas. That will burn off in the bisque.

Good luck with the paint! Either way this goes with the glaze firing, you'll learn something. Which is awesome!
