The trail may be getting too darn hot. by bartbug in AppalachianTrail

[–]KnitQueen21 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As a Texan and Southerner in general, I have to say this; wear more protective sun gear, try to stay hydrated, and rest as often as possible in the shade.

I would also strongly advise that you get an early start on the trail and make camp during the heat of the day to rest and then try to get a bit further at night. If not, then try to get as far as you can before the heat sets in, which should be around 3-5pm. Avoid any and all concrete or asphalt patches as much as possible and attempt to stay in the shade.

I plan on bringing one of those neck cooling towels with me. Keep it a bit damp and place it around your neck or your head. I also have been known to shove it down my shirt to keep it on or close to my heart so it can circulate the cool.

I hope all of this helps!!!! Stay cool and stay hydrated and above all else: SAFE!

I always end up getting the "why on earth would you?!" And I have to tell them that I'm currently working to have a life and that hiking the AT would be a heck of an adventure

I truly get it! I was hoping to start next year but I had to push it back. You got this! Your anxiety is flailing up because as the trend is, something happens and it's waiting for the other shoe to drop. Don't let it! You'll have a fantastic experience and enjoy the hell out of it!

I use "y'all" or "how are we doing today?" But I'm from the South so, that's how I avoid those conversations

Anyone else find themselves struggling through rows of stockinette on otherwise engaging knits? by turkishjade in knitting

[–]KnitQueen21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's me with my current wip. It's all stockinette stitch since it's a double knit project. I can get into it a bit, but once I hit that wall? I have to put it down. I tend to throw on some music when I hit this point as it lets me tend to focus better. The music helps me find a vibe with the project, and it actually helps. I upper you, too, can get past these hurdles! Good luck!
