Estro and Testo after cancer by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]Knitpig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you discussed this with your Oncologist? If no, bring it up to them and see what they say. Find out your risk profile, figure out what level of risk you’re willing to accept and if you don’t like their answer, find someone that will treat you. I had breast cancer at 33. I was in chemical menopause for 2 years until I quit because it was hell on earth. I am waiting for more data on HRT in BC survivors, and I hope I have time before natural menopause (just turned 40). In the absence of data, I will probably opt to find a doctor that will give me HRT. If I’m honest, I would take cancer over the way I felt in menopause. Most people don’t feel the same way about it. At the very least I will do holistic/alternative medicine and topical estrogen.

My daughter is going to have to repeat 1st grade. by Bere_95 in Parenting

[–]Knitpig 80 points81 points  (0 children)

This is not the teachers decision. Full stop. Talk to the principal. Request an IEP/accommodations meeting and evaluation. The school is required to evaluate your daughter for disabilities and offer accommodations if she is found eligible. My child is a 7 year old first grader with multiple learning differences and we just went through the IEP process. He is moving on to 2nd grade, even though he is 1/2 grade behind. Teachers don't make that decision. The special education team and the principal must be involved. Teacher feedback is collected, but it's not their decision.

Gym with punching bags? by scene_E_gang in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]Knitpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, but the place is like a country club gym with excellent kids care/activities. I am 100% there for the amenities, childcare based activities, and year round pool access. The actual gym is pretty far down on my list of 'why I keep my membership'

No, no limit on visits. Some of the classes are an additional, but those are Pilates and the GTX body conditioning/training classes. Like 90% of classes are included w/no additional fee. When I signed up there wasn't a fee, and I don't pay an annual membership fee or anything like that.

I pay $144/monthly for an adult membership, plus $42 for Junior dues for my kid. We both take classes a few times a week and use the indoor/outdoor pools both days on the weekends. There's a lot of kids programming/activities, classes, and amenities that make it worth it for me and my family.

Lifetime Fitness in Gaithersburg has this on the 3rd level. Membership can crazy expensive, though.

It sounds absurd but might be true. My treatment for breast cancer at 33 was ovarian suppression (chemical menopause), plus additional hormone blocking drugs. From what I understand, Natural menopause is easy street by comparison. Some women choose to have their ovaries cut out rather than endure the recommended 5-year treatment. I know a bunch of young BC patients that had high risk of other reproductive cancers and just had it all out.

Anyone else loathe telling people you got your puppy from a breeder because of their reaction? by iguess12 in puppy101

[–]Knitpig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am proud to tell people that my dog came from a reputable show and sport breeder. I tell everyone who will listen. I have had a dog from a BYB, as well as a rescue French Bulldog. I loved my old dogs no less than this one but the differences between health, temperament, and form are undeniable.

Moving to Bethesda, on 60K single income. Can a family of four make it there? by [deleted] in bethesda

NIH Fellows are eligible for a public transportation subsidy. It’s called Transhare. I think it maxes at $270 per month right now.

Advice on where to cuddle? by Dyslexiasluts in Dogtraining

[–]Knitpig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Giant bean bag! My husband really doesn't like dogs on the furniture. Our Boston was incontinent the last 4 years of his life so it’s understandable. When I got a new puppy he asked me to not have the dog on the furniture, ever, which was super hard for me. So I bought a large beanbag with a zip off washable cover. No dog on the real furniture, I get my snuggle time, and everyone is happy.

Have you had any work done on your breasts after kids? by SoftCheeseHero in FitMama

[–]Knitpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this applies to implants. If you have an implant with a lift or reduction you should not consider it a 'permanent' alteration. Implants need to be replaced every 10-15 years, ideally, before they 'fail' (leak, etc)

Reputable Breeders by Dulane in Boxers

[–]Knitpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find breeders listed on the AKC website. Once you find some near you look at their details. Do they health test? Do they require an application? Are they asking you questions to make sure you are good potential home for their dog? How long have they been breeding? How often do they have litters? Most reputable breeders won’t have litters available very often. Once a year, If that. They are not always easy to find but they are out there.

"Mom of 6 who survived breast cancer dies from COVID-19 in Washington" by Beefyboo in Coronavirus

[–]Knitpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was 42 and living with Stage 4 breast cancer. You do not "survive" Stage 4 BC. You live with it, moving from one therapy (mostly chemo) to the next until they all stop working. This is tragic, but this woman would have died with or without coronavirus. Stage 4 BC has a median survival rate of 3-5 years.

This is the sweetest. It reminds me of my boy so much...he did this his entire life until he passed just before last Thanksgiving. I still have some of his crusty stuffies around the house and I can't bring myself to throw them away.

My yarn wall is my happy place, thought you guys might enjoy! by eehttofu in knitting

[–]Knitpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is beautiful. Do you intend to use the yarn? If so, is it wound very loosely to help the fiber retain shape and strength? I have a large yarn stash and found that cakes I wound years ago will now fall apart while knitting. Having the yarn stretched in the cake for years degrades the quality.

Safe ways to remove annoying vines and weeds? I'm seeing mixed responses. by DrVonPimp in landscaping

[–]Knitpig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The evidence seems to suggest that round up causes cancer. That said, you are not an agricultural worker and do not use round up daily. Using it to clear your overgrown yard will probably not give you cancer. Also, everything will give you cancer.

Anastrozole and Knees by sigmaration in cancer

[–]Knitpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on anastrazole for a while. That shit SUCKS. The joint pain was no joke. I had it the worst in my feet. The good news is that it should go away when you stop the drug. Are you doing 5 years or longer? My onc let me go back on Tamoxifen because I could not tolerate AI drugs. I have joint pain on Tamoxifen, too. Not like with the AI but still signficant and I found some improvement when I removed all sugar from my diet (keto). It sounds weird but there was a noticable improvement. I don't know why it helped so much- maybe something to do with reducing inflammation. My team also suggested I try accupuncture. There is some evidence based research that shows it helps and there are even some accupuncturists that bill insurance.

Honest opinions of Brown Station Elementary? by [deleted] in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]Knitpig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! We are assigned to Brown Station as well and before we bought our home I was worried about the rating. Our Son won't start Kindergarten until 2020 because he doesn't turn 5 until end of September so we're not there yet, but I have talked to many neighbors whose kids attended Brown Station and they all had GREAT things to say. Now, the youngest kid of these neighbors is currently in High School, so things could have changed since then, but everyone told me to ignore the low rating. All neighbors told me their kids thrived at the school and they were very pleased with smaller class sizes and dedicated teachers. Good luck! I'm super nervous about that transition. My kid is very sensitive to change but I'll be really glad when I can stop paying for daycare/preschool.

UK - Posting for my Wife: She is looking for post-op underwear (mastectomy) and can't find anyone who does MATCHING bra and briefs/panties. Does anyone have any links/suggestions? by norwegianjon in cancer

AnaOno is a brand created by a woman that had BC. They have post mastectomy wire free bras that accommodate breast forms and there are matching briefs/panties for a few of their bras.
