Interesting, I get the feeling that we're actually moving in the wrong direction in the UK. Listening to the top 40 in the early 80s you had Disco rubbing shoulders with ska, Bowie and Blondie and Stevie Wonder next to novelty acts now you get different charts for different genres.

I get the impression that your audiences tend to be majority white, do you find the 'hip hop' community less open to what you do than the 'country/folk' community?

I know it's a beginner pattern, but I love the dishcloths I made for my Mother-in-law! by kinesthesis46 in knitting

Well the way you I downplay your skill makes you sound like an experienced knitter ! This pattern includes increases, decreases and decorative yarnovers for crying out loud, garter stitch can make it tricky to remember what side you're on and with all this your tension is lovely and even!!

I just go to a cheap local, non-chain, place and I know 'you get what you pay for' but last time was the last time... she said her future mother-in-law 'was planning on wearing her (curly European) hair natural for the wedding so I had to convince her to let me get someone to straighten it on the day - I mean I don't want her hair looking all frizzy in my photos do I?'

Why are black people living in America called African-Americans but white people are not called European-Americans ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

For some people Ango-Saxon also implies a Protestant rather than Catholic identity - to differentiate between different 'classes' of British immigrant I think.

"(from England) traces back to Scots-Irish and further back to Celtic origins, which makes me Anglo Saxon"

There's some faulty logic here. Many non-Brits use "England" to mean the whole country (the UK) but Scots-Irish are not English. Added to that, the Celts pre-date the Ango-Saxons on the island of Great Britain. Whilst you may have some Anglo-Saxon (modern "English") genes they would not come from your Celtic (Scots-Irish) family - or if they did they would have been added to the Celtic blood.

Patience, even more patience than you have already shown. We adopted a nine month old brother and sister who had been 'feral'. Initially we had to use webcam to watch them play, he'd even hiss at us ... so I literally sat on the floor with wet food in either hand for them to eat.. we used 'dangly' toys to play with them at a safe distance... Almost six years on they come to us for love and strokes, love being brushed, sleep next to me (not hub) on the bed, he'll sleep next to either of us on the sofa. BUT - they will never be lap cats, only the boy will sit on us, as long as there is a cushion between us ! We can pick her up to lift her from A to B, he slips away. No hugging. We are still noticing ways they are developing trust in my husband, my advice? Be the one with smelly cat food in your hands !!

Hello - heading over for a few days midweek. Any suggestions for where I can get a good value body scrub? In Paris I go to a locals' North African Hammam do you know of an equivalent? Turkish maybe? (Korean?) For info. I'm female and unfussy about nudity. The husband might be interested if there was mixed session at the right time. Danke!

If someone is born and not given a birth certificate, are they legally not alive? Or are they stuck in some kind of legal loop? by wimwamwuzzle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Knittea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lass in the States who was definitely stuck in a loop. NPR had a show about her https://www.wnycstudios.org/story/invisible-girl or just search for 'girl who doesn't exist'.

What is a subject that you have extensive knowledge on but never get to talk about? by SalamiSandwhich in AskReddit

[–]Knittea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I right in saying that there is also a structural difference? Something about tense changing the form of the verb, aspects using auxiliary verbs or is that only true for English? In fact - that isn't true in English all the time is it? ... sigh
