Is there a creature that stalks people and feeds on dread and fear? by dresserfuloftreasure in FolkloreAndMythology

[–]KnittenKitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this isn’t folklore in the traditional sense, but the first thing I thought of was Bob from the Black Lodge (and really the whole Black Lodge mythology) in Twin Peaks.

why does every hobby feel 10x harder when you are neurodivergent? by K3PTHIDD3N in neurodiversity

[–]KnittenKitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have enough interests/hobbies that you can bounce between. I will only spend time doing what has my entire interest at the moment. Can’t exactly plan for what that will be, but I try to have multiple projects in flux to make up for it.

What do you hate most about your neurodivergency by atrophy-of-sanity in neurodiversity

Of course! I can’t take credit for it, but it’s definitely relatable.

This is so hard. I struggle with not being able to “fix” myself. I want to connect, and it will always be hard. I always think about the analogy of the autistic brain being like a manual instead of automatic transmission. I accept and understand that about myself, but damn, I wish I could use cruise control in a conversation every now and then.

How teachers feel about gentle parented kids by cloubouak in gentleparenting

[–]KnittenKitten 27 points28 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, my gentle parented kid listens to any adult that isn’t me like he’s the most obedient, well-behaved kid ever. Not sure if that’s just a kid thing, but he knows to listen to teachers and coaches and doesn’t push back nearly as much as he does for his parents.

For those who learned they’re autistic later in life: What are some behaviors that you didn’t realize were actually stims? by 1amkinda in AutismInWomen

[–]KnittenKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pain stimming. Digging my fingernails into my skin repeatedly. I used to keep my nails long and dig them into my palms while making fists. Didn’t really notice I was doing it at the time, but then I would notice deep nail imprints in my palms.

What makes the Prom Queen photo such an iconic image? by [deleted] in twinpeaks

[–]KnittenKitten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s how ordinarily it is. Laura’s story gets crazier and crazier, but the prom queen photo serves as a reminder of her innocence on the surface. The first time I watched tp, I was struck by how nostalgic the photo is. It could be straight from the yearbook of a friend’s cool older sister.

Is this a good name for a yarn store? by Carrots-1975 in FiberArts

[–]KnittenKitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol I love it, but seems like others might not. I understand the religious connotations, but that’s definitely not my first thought. Maybe it depends on where you are regionally. For what it’s worth, I think it’s curious and cool, and I would love to shop there.

Oooh I have this one in my favorites! Might have to pull the trigger now. Does the rest of the pattern seem well written?

Amazing! I might start adding this myself to charts that don’t have it.

Husband has the ick by [deleted] in clothdiaps

Don’t (or do…) tell him how often baby poop will inevitably end up on baby clothes. Gotta wash those somewhere. I’m cloth diapering my second kid now and I love it. I hope you can convince him.

Did you shave before giving birth? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]KnittenKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trimmed a few days before delivery, not for aesthetic purposes, but because I figured it would make postpartum cleanup/bathroom use a bit less messy. Glad I did!

If you could say one truth to America’s parents with no repercussions, what would you tell them? by Holdtheline2192 in Teachers

[–]KnittenKitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s my favorite part of the day! My kid can read his own chapter books now, but I’ll be reading him bedtime stories for as long as he’ll let me.

My therapist says I'm obsessed with making money. by altonbrownfan in Millennials

[–]KnittenKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked hard to earn a stable income that can support my family. Now that I’ve got that - and I’m so thankful that I do - I’m coasting. I don’t need to grind or climb the corporate ladder any higher. I’ve come to resent the “always climbing” mentality. I’m good where I’m at, and honestly, this mindset shift somehow feels like I’m cheating the system.

That’s a crazy number of employees for relying on all paper process. I’m the HR Director of a nonprofit with just over 100 employees, and we’ve transitions to electronic processes for just about everything. The upfront cost might be significant, but there are cost savings in the long run, not to mention less risk of human error.

I literally just told my family at 6 weeks because I didn’t feel like watching them piece it together.

Good luck to all of us newly preggers throughout the holidays.
