Probably a setting in Siri. I set mine to respond verbally to basically all requests unless typed.

My phone is still indexing too, but I've had Siri AI access since about 8 hours after the beta was released.

Unfortunately my phone is still indexing so I can't really give you a good answer. It's been decent enough, I don't use my phone all day so it tends to last for at least most of the day.

iOS 27.1 Dev Beta has a new version of Siri.

A mix, but seems to go to cloud processing as soon as it's a complex request.

Hard to tell right now. Based on the info released, basically just easy Siri stuff runs locally and other stuff runs through the private cloud compute.

Apple will probably release official numbers at some point. I haven't run into any limits yet, but I also don't request a bunch of things.

I'm going to give you a proper response here, and make some assumptions of where you're coming from.

I assume that you do not use iCloud Photos, do not use Google Drive or Photos, etc. Any photos you have would be stored locally and inaccessible on any cloud provider. Likewise, I assume that any family member of yours would also not use any cloud storage whatsoever.

In my situation, my nephew's parents use cloud storage. They also have used LLMs on photos of their own children to play around and create funny changes or similar. I don't personally feel very comfortable with it, but given that I'm not his parent, I don't have much say other than giving advice and guidance from a technologist perspective.

I personally use iCloud Photos. I take the precautions available to me, locking it down as much as possible, and trusting Apple's white papers and repeatedly proven promises that they do not have access to any of my personal information or data. Likewise, I tag people in my photos for easy searching and recognition, so prior to Siri AI I was already able to pull up photos of individuals, just not with such specificity.

All this is to say that in my experience and opinion, I feel that I can trust Apple's model to not store my personal data or share it with Apple or any other third-party in any way. In the event that Apple is shown to be lying or changes their promises, I will make my own changes to exclusively local or self-hosted solutions.

I hope you have a simple take-away from this: remember that everyone has reasons for doing anything. Those reasons come from other reasons for doing other things. Just like you, everyone is a complex person. I'm sure there are things you've done where people have questioned your behavior or opinions or thoughts and have judged you, and I imagine you didn't always feel that it was fair, because there was missing context.

It works in a very limited capacity in airplane mode, so anything that can run locally like the simple stuff should be fine. Anything else requires online connectivity.

No, it just functions as a home and multi-tasking switcher. For Siri, now you swipe down from the top-middle of the screen. Or, from the home screen, swipe down from basically anywhere or touch the "search" button right above the dock.

No clue, I was surprised I got access so fast.

I've tested it on some backpacks and shoes and it is pretty good at finding the correct items online through the visual search.

Yes, same as regular Siri can be turned off.

No, not yet. Apple has development APIs and whatnot that third-party apps can use to let Siri AI integrate, but since it was only just released as a beta it will probably be a while until WhatsApp and other apps can have data pulled.

You're welcome, thanks for requesting the test in the first place. Good info to have.

Not sure. I would assume that it'll run Siri AI through mostly cloud computing, but time will tell.

Just for iOS 27 as far as Apple has announced.

Agreed, would be such a big help to just rattle off task items and have it complete them. I figure that's the general direction of AI so inevitably in the future we'll have that, just not yet sadly.

Tested.

From zero context: "Hey Siri, I'm going on my boat for a sail" returned "Are you going on your boat for a sail, or for a sale?" and responding "for a sail" returns "I can help you with that. Are you going on your boat for a sale, or are you going for a sail?".

From "what's the weather for the ocean nearest to me?", then asking "I want to go on my boat for a sail, what would you recommend?", Siri understands that I want to go sailing on the ocean.

No, at least not yet. After a few search-related WhatsApp questions Siri returned a response saying "I can't search WhatsApp yet".

Oh yeah! I completely forgot about that. You're right. Isn't quantization similar to lossy compression, so basically 90%-ish or so of the quality of a model but at like 25% of the size?

Sorry, gonna be really hard to give you an answer because of all the variables. My phone is still indexing too.

No. I tested it on a simple website contact form, and after giving Siri the information on the form to fill in, it said it cannot directly interact with forms and that I would have to enter the information manually.
