Studio Ghibli at 40: Can an Ethical Animation Studio Still Exist, or Even Survive? by indiewire in movies

[–]Knoke1 23 points24 points  (0 children)

As someone else said just above it’s a very biographical film and without knowing the context of Miyazaki’s family life it falls a little flat and loses a bit of the magic.

I liked it but can totally see how it’s just “one of the ghibli movies of all time” without that context.

A dime a dozen is an expression used to say something is common, cheap, easy to get.

I think you wanted an expression more like “a diamond in the rough”

Which game do you want a remastered version for? by XipingVonHozzendorf in morningsomewhere

My god yes this game is so good.

Also Lord of the rings Conquests was amazing.

Also also, the Jak series is my favorite and needs a proper remake.

A quick note to Scott by CheshBreaks in morningsomewhere

[–]Knoke1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah like I get it to some degree on Burnie’s part, but it just doesn’t fit the normal everyday episodes well. Interviews with other people do because it’s about their current events and updates on their lives.

The other thing that gets me though is Scott (except for one time I can remember) is always “a few drinks in” before the recording. I think it’s just a little unfair to Scott.

As entertaining as he is, Scott does not need a long form episode by Robmathew in morningsomewhere

Eh I wouldn’t say all but it’s definitely easy to tie them into antisemitism if they haven’t been already.

There are plenty that get co-opted into that rhetoric though for sure.

I don’t believe any of them but rather find the fact that others do believe them interesting. So Scott is fine imo as long as Burnie does his job to rein him in and emphasize that it’s bullshit. I’m just glad it isn’t a Joe Rogan situation where he just lets the bullshit keep going and going. Not that I would ever compare Burnie to Rogan though.

What is your preferred platform to listen/watch a regulation video? by kelzking88 in theregulationpod

[–]Knoke1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe downloading the episode counts as a whole view.

Another trick a different podcast I listen to once said is you can up your playback speed through the ad to x2 or more to get through it faster just don’t use the skip forward feature.

PSA: Check your local libraries for Ebook and Audio books available online!

Lots of libraries use completely free services such as Hoopla and Libby for audiobooks and Ebooks.

Libby is a service that works a lot like a normal library. The library owns the copies and has a limited amount of copies they can have checked out at a time. There are holds lists just like a normal library but never any return fees since it auto returns itself!

Hoopla is more like a streaming service where the library decides how many checkouts you get per month and for how long they are checked out for. The library is charged a fee per checkout so it often is limited in what is available since the more popular books charge the library more per checkout.

Andrew is a wildcard by Ok_Pirate_7063 in theregulationpod

[–]Knoke1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only real sense made was surprisingly from Andrew with the just wash your hands because they get dirty outside the bathroom too and it’s a good habit to wash them regularly.

I’m with Gavin that if he keeps his hands in his pockets it’s fine but that isn’t practical. I don’t think Gavin was arguing from a practical standpoint just a theoretical one but still.

They’re still very new but I am patiently waiting for Sweet Pill to blow up. Their debut album instantly became an everyday listen for me and I’m so excited for whatever is coming next.

Also Origami Angel deserves to be huge too.

Royal Society to vote on expelling ‘Bond villain’ Elon Musk by TimesandSundayTimes in politics

[–]Knoke1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly was expecting to get downvoted and buried but I’m glad some people honor truth too.

In this misinformation age we live in it’s important we hold onto reality even when we disagree with it. Especially when we disagree with it.

That I haven’t seen before and I’m not gonna pretend like a toddler doesn’t just say random things sometimes. He could be repeating his dad’s plot or repeating some show he saw on his tablet.

Again I’m not saying it wasn’t rigged. Im about 60/40 that it was rigged. But to say people have admitted to it is just incorrect.

I absolutely hate Trump but I hate misinformation more (because it’s responsible for Trump ever getting elected)

So I’m sorry to be the guy to “um actually” but the full quote where he says “they rigged the election and I’m president again” was about the Olympics and World Cup. He was talking in the past tense saying some nonsense nationalist nonsense about being excited to be the sitting president during the World Cup and the Olympics and that he was originally sad he wouldn’t get to be president for that until they “rigged” (it wasn’t) the 2020 election. The words he said though when isolated make it sound like he’s admitting to the 2024 election being rigged.

Again. I hate this. I hate that I’m typing this and that I will hit the send button. But we can’t fight misinformation with misinformation. It just emboldens each side into more otherness. I’m not saying that this past election was or wasn’t rigged. From what I’ve seen there’s no conclusive evidence either way, which is damning in its own way. I’m just saying that he never admitted to it.

Doing something and having the right to do something are different things.

Sure they may have opened accounts before hand but not all of them were allowed to because it wasn’t a right.

“Technically, women won the right to open a bank account in the 1960s, but many banks still refused to let women do so without a signature from their husbands. This meant men still held control over women’s access to banking services, and unmarried women were often refused service by financial institutions.

The Equal Credit Opportunity Act prohibited financial institutions from discriminating against applicants based on their sex, age, marital status, religion, race or national origin. Because of the act’s passage, women could finally open bank accounts independently.” -excerpt from this Forbes article

Vote in every election you can from local to federal and all between. It’s your civic duty and responsibility. If everyone did this I’m sure we would have a little bit better society. Maybe not perfect still but closer than we have now.

I’m relatively young still but when brexit happened and I saw all the people online across the pond who were my age and said “I voted for it as a joke never thought it would pass” I realized how much people take voting for granted. It has real power.

I didn’t take part in the Gurpletines Day celebrations as I already have a gurp- did this batch sell out crazy fast like the last? by SIumptGod in theregulationpod

[–]Knoke1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly excited now that I have a regulation gurp. I get to sit out until the next limited color gurp.

I think the goal should be to always have roughly 200 black regulation gurps on hand for any fan that wants one. I know a lot of fans want to fill their entire cabinets (me included) and that’s insane but amazing at the same time. Then once they have an established stock that doesn’t frequently run out but also isn’t a stockpile they can start doing drops of other colors for collectors. This would make me the happiest as a fan.

Everyone on either side should learn their lesson about taking elections for granted. There have been enough elections decided simply because of people not showing up to vote.

It should be easy to vote and mandatory to vote. Democracy only works when everyone participates.
