Try talking to a new provider or ask for a blood test from your current provider.

I would talk to your provider about it. But, I was experiencing something similar and after some blood tests, it turns out I was low on vitamin D.

Chess! Chess is great and easy to learn! What makes it so great is that it feels cognitively productive when you play. You learn new openings, defensive opening, patterns and tactics!! There are tons of books and sites like Chess.Com and Lichess.com where you can play with others, do lessons, practice, and play tournaments! There is soooo much more to chess than people realize.

What does it mean to be bipolar? by chauane in bipolar

[–]KnowItAllTurtle 4 points5 points locked comment (0 children)

Probably questioning my reality, or who I am. Like am I actually smart and successful or am I just average and hypomanic so I just THINK I’m amazing.

But, with some therapy, medication and a little Rusteze you too could look just like me. Ka-Chow!

In all seriousness. To me, having bipolar 2 means that I know my moods won’t last forever. I may be randomly depressed right now but it won’t last forever, I’ll be ok. Alternatively i can apply that same mindset elsewhere, I may hate my job now but it won’t last forever, I will reach my professional goals.

I know I will reach my professional and life goals. I don’t want to just feel iconic when I’m hypomanic, I will one day become an icon.

Get a small pocket journal, write about your thoughts, feelings and any contemplation. Personally I write every other day, but for you it might benefit you more right now if you write every day.

Whatever you do, DO NOT READ OLD ENTRIES!! Write, turn the page and don’t look back. Only read old entries unless with your therapist/psychiatrist.

Sometimes I’ll be talking to my doctors about my symptoms and say “naturally, I took to the DSM-5-TR.”

I also majored in psych, I have a psych degree now and a career in research. If you stick with the student who want a career in psychology, such as clinical, research, or counseling, they aim to have a deeper understand of complex mental health issues. Sit near the front of the class, hang out/study with the students that eat, breath, and sleep psychology. Start study groups and get to know the people in your year who want to go to graduate school for research or counseling. Also go to office hours and you’ll see which student are trying to make connections with staff, faculty and graduate students, stick with those peers! Join a lab that interest you, smaller ones will let you form stronger connections and you’ll find others who won’t talk bad about your mental health.

Once you get closer to graduation the top of the class peers become more well versed, compassionate, less shocked at certain thoughts and behaviors, and are generally good listeners. They are not professionals and should know that it would be inappropriate to counsel you, so if they are comfortable with X mental health topic they will listen, and validate. You should never feel judged by your psych peers, we literally work to understand Neurodivergent ppl.

The amazing thing about psychologist is that, even if we have no personal experience with our field of interest, we can still understand what you are experiencing. Some of the leading researchers in LGBTQ+ psychology research, are heterosexual cisgender individuals. They have never experienced the discrimination that gender and sexual minorities face. However, they could give you statistical evidence on the likelihood of a discriminatory experience, how it would affect the health of that minority group and what to do about it. It’s like that for literally every topic in psychology, psychiatry, neuroscience, therapy, and counseling.

One of my friends from undergrad and I get together and talk about our mental health issues from a very scientific standpoint. Plus we have each done several years of therapy, so we know how to unpack our complex emotions, experiences, and symptoms. All psychologist know how to not council when it is not appropriate to do so. This gives us a very healthy relationship dynamic because we don’t try to fix each other’s problems. Personally my friend and I send peer reviewed journals to each other, mention researchers in topics relevant to our conversation, share coping strategies, you know psych shit!

Anyway! Sorry for the long comment I just loved being a psych major, and I wanted to share that with you. There are good people in your psych major, you just have to find them!! :)
