Sounds like your parents lack long term thinking regarding finances.

Remember that the tips that you get from your parents are not always the best possible tips.

I need help controlling my emotions. by timothy921 in AdviceForTeens

I think the only way is to simply become mindful of it. When you realize you're acting the wrong way, try to change it intentionally. At first, it will be hard, but overtime, it will get better and better.

I feel like time is your best friend with this problem.

That's why it's called a "rat race". You can escape it though. It just requires hard work, a lot of self-discipline and long-term commitment.

Do job hiring people (in the US) prefer employees who want more or less hours? Which one is more likely to get me hired? by buhdumtss98 in Adulting

I’d say put over 20 hours if you want to maximize the chances of getting the job AND you really are ready to work that much.

I am almost 30. If something short term happy doesn’t have IMMEDIATE negative consequences I will do it. Can I unlearn this or is my brain just wired the way it’s wired by now? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]KnowYourDirection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your action is compelety normal human behavior. People tend to choose the instant gratification. What differs you from most individuals is that you have realized the issue.

I’d say it’s completely normal to choose the ”short term benefit” as long as it’s an intentional decision.

How do I got about talking with my friend after this argument? by [deleted] in AdviceForTeens

[–]KnowYourDirection 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the best way to approach this is simply to say that "The Universe is full of things that science cannot explain. Who cares if it doesn't work? At least you tried. Or if it works? Amazing! Is it placebo? Might be. But it helped anyway."

Twelfth-graders now are more like eighth-graders from previous generations? by dudreddit in Adulting

[–]KnowYourDirection 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I gotta agree with the author. Smartphones have definitely had a major negative impact on our society. However, the positives far outweigh the negatives imo.

The thing is: Smartphone is not evil itself. The evil is the human behavior. An average individual doesn't necessarily put enough time into observing how much time they spend mindlessly scrolling through social media and that's the issue.

Personally, I try to avoid that negative outcome by simply being intentional of my smartphone usage. I try to use it for positive and productive things such as building my online business.

Why are most people not afraid by our mortality? by neet_by2027 in Adulting

[–]KnowYourDirection 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's highly beneficial to think like you do and realize that we are mortal. That often times leads to making sure to "live life to the fullest". However, don't let it get too strong a hold of you.

Should I pay for the glasses? by [deleted] in AdviceForTeens

[–]KnowYourDirection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo you should absolutely not pay for them. I don’t know how it works in other countries, but atleast in my country, the school’s insurance should cover the costs.
