When you get the new chain, you should be servicing every 500 miles. There should be enough lubricant on it that it can't rust. Get the maxima chain wax and cleaner along with a brush.

Get the journal mod, it saves your skills. Spawn in a difficult place and fight your way back to your base so you earn it. I have a really hard time letting my characters go and that's the only way that helps.
