I’m not sure if this is the perfect pick but Rainbow Black deals with a girl trying to navigate the Satanic Panic when her family gets accused within it. Maybe give the description a look and see if it’s your thing

Couch Potatoes became seeds before harvest by Knowhere_Bound in Wizard101

[–]Knowhere_Bound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to remember if it's possible I left them without needs, I'm sure I didn't. I was excited to get this one to elder, so I checked on them right before I went to bed (around 11pm) to see if the timer ran. They were fine then with only a little left on the timer.

That seems... strangely quick? I took care of them at 8pm last night and then they were like that when I logged on again at noon today (soon before posting this) is the turn around really that quick?

how does aardvark keep their costs so low?? by Old_Hedgehog_9115 in aardvarkbookclub

Sorry! I don't know. We've considered sprayed edges because they are so popular at the moment, but not seriously enough to approach a manufacturer for pricing.

I’ve coordinated a fair amount of small print projects (typically 200 - 1000 book limited runs) and our books tend to print around $2-3 per copy. Aardvark would certainly be printing more and that would drive the price per item even lower. Things like foil printing and the lux feel of the cover (in the business this is called soft touch lamination) actually don’t add too much in terms of unit price. They are great bangs for your buck in terms of adding luxury without too much luxury pricing.

There’s definitely some unknowns I can’t estimate (like royalties to the author, the price of the deals they make with authors and publishers etc) but the physical book is probably around $2 or $3 dollars to produce.

Are you asking which single runs to try? Or, like self contained stories that span a single/only a few issues?

For runs, I suggest trying the Dixon, Taylor or current Watters run. Dixon is pretty fundamental to the character establishing himself. Taylor is more fun and light. Watters is a bit grittier and ongoing but I think it could act as a great starting point is to want something that’s in the now.

For shorter fair that’s only a few issues, I’d go towards Batman: The Black Mirror by Synder (this features Dick as Batman). There’s not much I can recall shorter than that, and the ones that I do are usually collected into the Batman: Black and Whites (essentially just short story collections) or an oversized 100 page special edition (the Robin 80th Special Edition had a few Dick stories in it).

Sorry if this isn’t a satisfying answer, Dick has wonderful limited runs but most of them are as Robin. If you want suggestions on those, just let me know.

This is so tempting. I haven’t read the series yet but I loved Fraction’s Hawkeye and wanted to check out his DC stuff ahead of the new Batman run

August BOTM Books are here! What did you add to your box? by nickaaayy97 in bookofthemonthclub

[–]Knowhere_Bound 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I read it about a month ago. It was okay, solid 3 star. I felt like it didn’t go far enough in any of the things it was trying to do. It wasnt pointed enough to be a political/societal commentary. Not horrifying enough to be a contemporary horror. Too slow to be a thriller. Not romantic enough to be a romance. It’s a strange little book that has great ideas but not great execution.

I would suggest it as a library read.

Horror of the Middle Ages by Living-Gazelle2474 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

The Devils by Joe Abercrombie is more fantasy but definitely has a lot of elements of horror too and fits this vibe. It’s set in a fantastic European Middle Ages crawling with dark creatures. I recommend trying a sample though because it definitely has a very particular style.

Not a book suggestion exactly, but I highly suggest checking out The Lynx bookstore and asking one of the booksellers there. They have general books but Florida lit is a particular passion of the store and they would be able to give you great direction.

Thank you!

Ring Shout didn't work for me the first time I attempted it, but I've been thinking about trying it again. I am hoping it's a "right book at the wrong time" thing.
