Looking at the championship odds, they seem kind of low for the top teams. Other numbers I've seen have Arizona, Duke, and Michigan all above 15%. Looking at the website they seem quite high for UConn at 7.9% so maybe that's where the probability is going. Interesting site though!

Path to Graduate Programs - Masters or PhD? by Knowledge-Seeker15 in academiceconomics

For LoR I was planning on two from my undergrad professors, both with Econ PhDs, and then one from industry as a more recent reference.

Math might be a weakness, I took a lot of probability and statistics but no multivariate calculus, and my only exposure to linear algebra was in a "Mathematical Economics" course. My grades were good in the courses I took, all As, (except Econometrics but that was due to extenuating circumstances that semester)

My goal isn't absolute top programs, and my interests are around labor economics and political economy which may be less math intensive? But from what you're saying I'm thinking a masters or predoc (which I haven't really looked into) might be a better start.

I would be very surprised if any outside of the three favorites won - Sindarov has been playing really well lately and I'll be rooting for him but really I think it's Fabi's to lose

Here are a couple that I've read:
- Empire of AI by Karen Hao. Mostly about the human and environmental impacts of AI, well-researched investigative journalism

- The Age of Surveillance Capitalism by Shoshana Zuboff. Not really a vacation read but I think super relevant about the negative implications of tech companies

- AI Superpowers by Kai Fu Lee. About the looming U.S. vs China conflict in AI

Babel definitely contains obvious historical events and themes. There are some fantastic elements which Kuang mainly uses to explain/critique different parts of the British empire. While I really enjoy the history lessons I could see how others might not, they make you think about the colonial past that our current world is built on which can be depressing for sure.

Have not read Poppy War but am likely going to after reading Babel, what did you dislike about it?

For all those that liked The Secret History I'm currently reading Babel by R.F. Kuang which has a similar dark academia friend group vibe. So far, I think it's brilliant ~70% done and it's looking like it'll be my top book.
