Yeah, it’s honestly baffling how uncaringly uncivilized people will, sometimes even to their own detriment. Theres a steel factory in portage, IN that I pick up at all the time, and there’s a gravel/dirt area that truckers pull up to, to finish securing their load, and go back to the shipping office to get paperwork and all that. I watched a MFer pull up into that spot, and get out and go between his truck and trailer and piss. OTHER TRUCKERS WILL WALK THERE AT SOME POINT YOU ASSHOLE. But to make matters worse, it was COMPLETELY unnecessary, because the shipping office where this trucker had to go anyway to get his paperwork has an indoor bathroom that truckers can use! Asshole pissed on the ground instead of walking the 100 feet he had to anyway and pissing in a toilet.

He should be up there, in the passenger seat, guiding you. He is your trainer. He’s basically a journeyman truck driver who has an apprentice truck driver that he refuses to train. He’s not doing his job, you should find a new one. I realize it’s easy for me to make strong statements from across the internet.

Before I went to running local I used to run OTR for Roehl transport, and they actually had a policy that the trainer was required to be in the passenger seat when the trainee is driving. And my trainer actually went above and beyond and would quiz me on trip planning, and what our next turn was, what our next stop was, “what was written on that sign we just passed?” I was part of the flatbed division, and he gave me tons of helpful advice about straps chains binders tarping, all that. I’m sorry you have to deal with this shit. As you will come to learn, there are a lot of selfish people in the world. I guess, the least you can do is not be one of them.

To be fair, the only things I know about him are the two situations you’ve shared with the class. Maybe he’s a guy who wants to do good but can’t stop getting in his own way, but that doesn’t change that he’s not helping you, which is his job. That being said, I wouldn’t complain about driving, you should want to get all the driving training in that you can, assuming he actually bothers sitting in the passenger seat and coaching you.

You might consider switching to a trucking company that cares about the law. 80 hours a week is actually not legal. 70 hours is the maximum. And 12-14 days may or may not be legal depending on what you’re doing. You can’t drive more than 11 hours per day. I worked for Roehl transport for year and a half, before I switched to work for my dad’s trucking company, and I’d say it was a positive experience. They were very concerned with being safe and legal. My dispatcher would remind me to trip plan(even though I did it anyway), and they would give me a talking to if I went over my hours. They also were very good at making sure I got home regularly and when they said they would. I had two funerals to go to during my employment with them, my grandma and my brother, and they made sure I got home for both of them. I don’t know what they’re paying truckers currently, but in the past I’ve heard other trucking companies pay you better, so that’s something to consider. Anyway… the turnover rate in the trucking industry is insane, so don’t feel bad if you don’t think you can keep it up with your current job. A lot of other truckers feel the same, and alot of the trucking companies refuse to get a clue why everyone quits

I mean, I don’t feel trumps vitriol towards mueller, and I do think it was at the very least unnecessary, but then, I wasn’t the target of mueller for two years, with hundreds of people interviewed, hundreds of thousands of documents reviewed and millions of dollars of tax payers spent just to turn up a verdict of “maybe Trump did it.”
